Fox News is announcing that Tony Snow has died.
Heartbreaking news.
There are some more key words/phrases (all mentioned in
the top of the thread:
Snoq
Smokin’ dope
Snowflakes
Snowman
*thud*
Is your hair on fire?
I fear that this tight group will never be together again
in such a way again. There was no one like Tony!...and I’ll
miss all the Snowflakes SO much. *sigh*
The funeral is on Thursday......thanks SL and Surferboy!
I have a snowflake pendant....I will be wearing it in memory
of “our” Snowman. I wish I lived closer.
Maybe we could have a thread—My Favorite Tony Snow story or rememberance or something—that we could all add to and laugh over and keep in touch that way. Maybe a title with Snowflakes in it. I’m sure the stories would be endless—we could keep it up for a long time! :)
Thank you for the President’s visit to Tony’s family—another lump in the throat tho.
That would be wonderful...and we could spend time smiling
instead of having this huge lump in our throats! *gulp*
I am previewing the post I made, and just hearing his voice
makes my heart ache! :(
I was just devastated when I heard the new about Tony on Saturday morning. I, like most FReepers, thought Tony was pretty much "on the mend" (per his last FR postings in May 2008) and that he had many years left and a bright future. I can't believe he is gone.
I didn't know him personally, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to see/hear him speak a few times at CPAC, and finally meet him, shake his hand and speak with him for a couple of minutes in February at CPAC. Honestly, he was the picture of health in February 2008... I actually exclaimed to him (as did many others) how wonderful he looked! And he was a bundle of energy.
After his fabulous speech, Tony stayed for well over an hour until all in the crowd had a chance to speak to him and/or pose for photos with him... he was SO upbeat and extremely gracious. I later saw him charging down the hotel hall - at a very fast pace - talking to someone excitedly about all the speeches he was going to be giving over the next few months. He was so happy and excited.
I'm afraid I'm having a bit of a crisis of faith, FRiends... I just do NOT understand how such a good and decent man had to be taken away from his family, friends and from this great nation, which desperately needs more Tony Snows. It's just so wrong to me...
Fervert prayers for Tony's wife Jill, and for their three lovely children...
Not to pick nits, but it was “smokin rope”.
Tony spoke about death as being a "promotion." I take great comfort in that. I hope you do as well.
Thanks, Hildy... I'll try. ;-)
I loved your Tony story, by the way... my sincere condolences on the loss of your friend Tony. So he was still quite active as of two months ago, giving speeches around the country? Wow...
I believe the Phoenix speech was in April. It may have been the last one.
God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another.
I have my mission — I may never know it in this life but I shall be told it in the next.
I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught.
I shall do good, I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments.
Therefore I will trust Him. Whatever I am, I can never be thrown away.
If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him; in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about.
He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me — still He knows what He is about.

Interesting observation by The Anchoress...
It just occurred to me that my four favorite journalists have died in the past few years, Snow, Tim Russert, Michael Kelly and David Bloom, and it turns out there were all practicing Catholics, which doesnt mean anything at all - although it may explain why none of them fit comfortably into easy labels and categories - its just something I notice with sadness.
-She left out Bill Buckley as well... maybe others.
Oh, LUV! Tears rolling again--first I looked at the picture---and then I clicked on the link. I only listend to a few minutes....but I will listen to the rest later. So good, but so sad to hear his voice. What a man.
Thanks for posting.
Thanks for taking the time to share your story, nutmeg! One on hand I am thrilled that he looked so well in Feb when you saw him---that he was happy and healthy. I hope he got the most out of the ensuing months.
On the other hand, I am so sad about the speeches we didn't get to hear/read, the books unwritten, projects unfinished (he was working on something with Newt Gingrich), the radio shows not broadcast...what a loss--and that is just for the public---it doesn't begin to measure the loss to his wife and children. Whew.
You are right, it seems so wrong. Pray about it. Express your anger, lack of understanding, etc. to God. He will see you through the other side. A friend of mine says "Do you believe in the darkness what you know to be true in the light?" That very much helps me and gives me perspective. I will pray for you!
I know... such a great loss, for so many people, especially his family of course...

Thank you so much for that... ;-)
Thanks, AliVeritas!
WFB was the father of modern conservatism, but his articles an books had long, winding and curliqued sentences :-) He was an author as opposed to a journalist, I think.
Me too.
(((hugs)))
It’s not fair, ((((((((((nutmeg)))))))))))
Thanks so much for sharing.
Prayers for the Snow family.
