Fox News is announcing that Tony Snow has died.
Heartbreaking news.
I typed it. I'm still working on absorbing it.
Fox showed some of those little essay bits that Tony did at the end of his broadcasts. Those were among the things that first endeared him to me. There was never a false word or a false note struck in any of them. They were never ABOUT him. But they told us lots about who he was.
There are some nice tributes to read over at: http://soulestuary.newsvine.com/_news/2008/07/12/1659473-ex-bush-spokesman-tony-snow-dies-of-cancer?threadId=311545&cmt=2180732#c2180732
YES, yes, YES! Every time I’d hear those essays at the end of his show I’d be struck by what a gem this guy was, what a rare man. More than once, he made me think. Not react, but think, evaluate and ponder whay I thought or believed this or that.
I tried to post a tribute page link for Tony that’s at the soulestuary over at newsvine, but it’s not showing up for some reason. You can probably search for it to leave a tribute.
So good to see you, too, SEMom.... Hugs.
I don’t know what I would do at a time like this, not being able to reminisce here on Free Republic. I’m going to put up a video in a minute and I’ll ping you.
Speaking of which, I loved the anecdote on The Sunday Talk Show thread that Tony used the term “ping” at one of the press conferences. Don’t know if true, but funny anyway:).

I’m a lawyer, Schwarzeneger, and that is a wonderful idea. Let’s give it some thought. It’s not very problematic to set up such a fund, but there may be plans afoot to do so already. I’m sure we can find out. So I guess the question becomes what the best way is to go about it and if there is sufficient interest and support to mount a FReeper effort to get involved.
I suggest we sleep on it and ask the Snoqflakes tomorrow. What do you think?
Thanks, Red.
Thank you. All one has to do is mention something, and a kind FReeper comes to help:).
I’m getting used to crying these days. What a heroic moment.
“Our Tony” Forever.
I have said this several times over the past 2 days---I have never shed so many tears for someone I never met!
The loss is so huge. First, of course, for his family--but our loss, the nation's loss, is so great. To have a man of his grace, wit, intelligence, articulateness, kindness, charm, honor, integrity, and faith speak for 'our side' was such a gift....and now an irreplaceable loss.
And, for added inspiration (more like, another towel):

It’s a lovely thought. Setting up a fund is beyond me, but let’s see if any other FReepers are up to it.
I think in God’s mercy he gives the bad ones more opportunity to ome to him for salvation.
But that’s just me.
Thank you./Just Asking - seoul62.......
We’ve had two FReepers suggest a trust fund for the Snow family. I thought long and hard about setting up an FR activism thread to see if someone would volunteer to take the lead to set up a trust fund and contributions process for the family of Tony Snow.
My concern is that a new thread would be more apt to attract attention of unscrupulous persons who would join FR with the intent to cause harm.
Instead, I am sending out this Snowflake ping to see if anyone has the ability to help get this up and running.
My opinion is that we should contact someone in DC who might know if a fund has already been set up. Perhaps the funeral home or his church would know.
I hesitate to set one up here because of the creepy people who are always looking about. It would be much better if someone else could set up the fund and we could just post the address.
Another thing, saveliberty. I would bet cash money that Cheney and Bush have put some money in a fund for those kids.
The best I can think of is to contact SurferBoy to see if he can find out.
I will send him a note.
Thank you, Miss Marple!
