When I first heard former Senator Phil Gramm refer to our economic condition as a mental crisis and suggest that too many Americans had become whiners, my immediate reaction was, too bad too few Americans would comprehend the hard truth he just set before them
(snip)
Technically speaking, as if the facts matter any more, Phil Gramm is right on both counts, though it was dumb of him to think he could just blurt out the truth to an ignorant American electorate at this late date. He wins the dumb award for not knowing how the whiners would react to such a comment, or how the dumber would jump at the chance to exploit it.

You’re not Dumb and you’re not Spineless. You must be the other guy. lol
Yes, you’re correct - they did see the dangers of “parties and factions” and, soon after the beginnings of the Republic, we devolved to “parties and factions”. I mistated the facts when I said they didn’t “envision” it and stand corrected.
Lack the courage to answer the question, so you start name calling? Now that’s entertainment!
So, who are you planning on running the country for the next four years?
Actually, you need one more stop in the history book...
Remember the Federalists and the anti-Federalists who together wrote all of our founding documents?
They became the two parties we have today... They were opposing factions then and less opposing factions today...
Why don’t people research before they claim expertise any more?

Ummmm, like Phil Gramm? He's done right nicely for himself and Wendy since leaving DC, hasn't he?
Two words: Term Limits!
You want an answer to this question? Here's your answer. Who cares? They're both unfit for office. They're both liars, backstabbers, weasels, crooks, incompetent, scum sucking, pandering, thieving, dirt bags.
Gee, it just breaks my heart that I am not as wise, enlightened and educated as you are. And so humble, too - you must be very proud of that!
Don't want to help Obama do nuthin', except get a one way bicycle ride back to the south side of Chicago.
That said, I find it extremely hard to get behind McCain, I don't care how repulsive Obama is day in and day out.
McCain's brain has been pickled in Washington media juice for so long, he is unable to respond in a way that hits the mark.
The housing mortgage crunch was caused, in large part, by the Dem-dominated Federal Reserve (did you see the report on that today on cable today?) which forced lending institutions to give mortgages to unqualified people.
The oil crisis was caused, in large part, by Dem dominated eco-zealots in Congress who refused to let the US develop its ample resources.
McCain should be hit these two TOP IMPORTANT issues out of the park, day after day, in every stump speech... in every media setting.
Yet, he continues to spout out boring Washington speak.... free trade baloney, comprehensive reform baloney, I-will-cut-spending baloney baloney.
(No offense, but every single politician in history says he will cut spending. And while McCain might be more serious than the average schmo, it is a boringly terrible issue to talk about day after day.)
"Whip inflation now" was an idea of genius. I was out of work so fast I got whiplash. That was old Gerry Ford.
No, it doessn’t, but things have been MUCH worse than now and it wasn’t too many years ago when 10% mortgage loans were the norm.
So true. So heartbreakingly true.
The GOP is stuck with the worst candidate imaginable. If the GOP had a lick of sense left (it doesn't), it would persuade McCain to bow out now and throw the convention open so a real Republican candidate and leader could emerge. There is more than one out there, but they aren't named "McCain"
I don’t think Americans are stupid at all. I think they are very smart and if you think they are stupid you won’t get elected to any political office. So what if the Republicans cut taxes when the dollar falling and food and energy cost are escalating.
Food, fuel, medical, other services and goods costs weren’t as expensive either, that is what people see daily, not mortgages.
I beg your pardon, but mortgages are paid every single month and THAT is certainly part of the budget, too. No matte how much you whine about it, overall things are going great. Housing costs are down and employment is up. Things are NOT as bad as you would like people to believe.
“I have no plans for who will run the country except to oppose them every step of the way.”
So, ideally, all of them would lose and America would have no president until we can find one you agree with 100%?
You see this as a realistic, conservative, viable position?
Listen, in the good ole days , it was only liberals who worked in fantasies and conservatives impressed only by facts could be relied upon to save the nation from them.
Today, conservatives are working in fantasy and inaccurate facts too. Who saves the country now?
I’m frustrated when I see well-intended conservatives not doing their homework before regurgitating the latest leftist headlines, as if they are true.
I get no joy from calling people out who are allegedly on my team...
No doubt about any of your comments here, but how does allowing Obama to win help?
I see people on FR who seem to think that someone besides McCain or Obama is going to be the next president. Sorry, but I disagree. One of these two men will be president for the next four years, no matter how I feel about that.
So, I can spend the next four years fighting McCain on 30-40% of his agenda, or fighting Obama on 100% of his...
Is there another option that I don’t know about?
and... the majority of American voters seem to think that a racist communist with a completely blank resume’ is the new Messiah that is going to save America from itself by allowing Sharia law into U.S. neighborhoods in the name of “tolerance” in the nation he has pronounced to be no-longer Christian, even though most Americans are indeed Christian, as are our founding principles....
You somehow miss the gross ignorance in all of this?
