As we used to say on bumper stickers during the 1988 campaign,
"Dukakis For What?!"

Whatta dolt. They just don’t want anyone out of the teeming “blue states” to have a voice in the process.

I think it is high time we got rid of the Electoral College and elected our presidents the way we elect every other elected official in the country - by a vote of the people,Both dead & otherwise

Power play. Party-over-nation at it's finest.
If the Democrats were to ever achieve this wet dream of theirs, they would richly deserve the results (aka, anarchy, rebellion and lawlessness).

Why are democrats always against processes that the Constitution lays out?

Hey Guv, we’re not changing the Constitution around just because YOU think it’s the thing to do.

So basically let’s just let Los Angeles, NY and Chicago elect our President from now on.
To: buccaneer81
Like that would have made a difference for him.

Oh for crying out loud! Dukakis doesn’t think that candidates will stop focusing on certain states if the Electoral College is eliminated?? They’ll be all over California, Texas, Illinois and NEVER darken the doors of Alaska, and about half of the western United States.
Good thing this will never pass.
To: buccaneer81
So far, Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois and Hawaii have supported electing the president through a national popular vote. Can you even imagine what a nightmare a nationwide recount would be????

Why bother to have states at all then... we can just elect the President of LA/NY. No thinks Mike. Go study some history.

I guess he left out the fact that not all popular winners of each state guarantees a vote from the Electoral College.
The Electoral College is one of the last firebreaks left in the Constitution.

I think it is high time we got rid of the Electoral College and elected our presidents the way we elect every other elected official in the country - by a vote of the people ...so that the highly populous and Liberal states can sway who gets elected, walking overtop of what the majority of the other states want. After all, those old white guys who fought the Revolution had no idea what was really good for us
today!"
Let me see, Dukakis, Dukakis...you were famous for something fifty years ago, but I can't place it. Wern't you one of Madonna's former husbands?

Because they hate the constitution for restricting their power over the little people.

The sad thing about this whole affair is that if someone wanted to put their state into play they could just adopt the Nebraska system internally...
But as a political show its pure gold..
