D.C. Officials Weigh Making Semiautomatic Pistols Illegal

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court's repeal of the ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., may be a boon for a segment of the firearms industry whose last major windfall might have been in the heyday of the Dirty Harry movies: those who make and sell revolvers.

The court ruled that a blanket ban on handguns is unconstitutional, but D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and other Washington officials want to keep in place a prohibition on semiautomatic handguns — those in which a bullet clip is inserted into the gun's grip.

Such a ban would continue to outlaw 9-mm and other popular pistols that are legal in most other places around the United States. And it would make the classic six-shooter the only legal handgun in the District.

It also would be ruled illegal if the liberal idiots had read the ruling.

They do with without rationale, because such are “in common use” by any standard.

Exactly. The Court made it clear that a ban of commonly used firearms is unconstitutional.

Goes against the spirit of the SC decision IMHO.

Hope a sane judge will strike this law down too if passed.

After it gets passed they won’t stop there, it will be caliber size then barrel length then speedloaders - the list will be endless once they get going.

Pistols are more common in this day and age than revolvers. Most handguns sold today are pistols. I don’t know how deep into stupidity the DC morons are going to go but the ruling clearly says you can not ban commonly used firearms.

I always recommend revolvers for personal defense for rookie shooters anyway.

They are just counting on “conservatives” here a FR to get Obama elected so that he “fix” SCOTUS.

Surely that's a rhetorical question.

The DC banners must think that revolvers are slower. Guess they haven't seen this video of speed revolver shooter Jerry Miculek.

Do they just not get it? It isn’t that hard to see that not only does banning hand guns (or any guns) make crime more prevalent, but it’s also illegal! And restrictions like this just amount to a half-hearted ban in my opinion.

Deep. DC is going to push the limit as to how far it can go.

Which is bad for DC residents. It's their tax money being spent on useless litigation.

The whole question will come to a head when a resident brings a semi-auto into the police to register.

Next they’ll get some liberal, idiot, judge to rule that a Revolver is “semi-automatic”, and that single shot handguns in calibers larger than .22 are illegal.
