Police believe they have found the remains of Brooke Bennett, 12, of Braintree. Police say the remains were found on property on Crocker Road in Randolph near the home of Michael Jacques. Police found ground there that had been recently disturbed yesterday. Today, a search found the body there. Police say Brooke's body was recovered at 4:45 p.m.
An autopsy will be performed in Burlington to confirm it is Brooke and to try to find the cause of death. Police do call the death suspicious.
Brooke's family was notified of the discovery.
Brooke disappeared a week ago. She was last seen at a Randolph convenience store with her uncle, Michael Jacques. Police had previously called Jacques a person of interest in her disappearance and they had been searching his property in Randolph.
Late this afternoon, federal authorities also announced they will charge Jacques with kidnapping Brooke. The affidavit will not be released until the charges are filed in court Thursday morning.
Police plan to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday to update the case.
Need a rope and a tree.
>> One certainly has to wonder if VT’s policy of endangering children by shielding the identity of sex offenders played a role here.
If they have such a law, its clearly a bad law. But, regardless of shield laws, you’d think his family would know he was a creep.

God rest her soul..............so sad
Federal officials say in court papers that Brooke Bennett's uncle brought her home and took her upstairs to have sex.
In an affidavit, officials say a teenage girl admitted helping Michael Jacques drop 12-year-old Brooke off at a store on June 25 and then get her and return to his Randolph home for sex. Brooke has not been seen since.
In the U.S. District Court affidavit, the teen told agents she herself had been having sex with Jacques, 42, since she was 9 in a sex ring called Breckinridge. She said she was told Brooke was going to be brought into the ring that day.
The information came in federal court where Brooke's former stepfather, Ray Gagnon, is facing obstruction of justice charges brought by federal officials. According to court papers, Gagnon rented a room in a house in San Antonio owned by Kevin Grosenheider. Gagnon allegedly called Grosenheider and asked him to throw out a safe that contained a laptop. The safe was thrown into a dumpster and police have not been able to find it.
Court papers also say that Michael Jacques knew Brooke's user name and the password to her MySpace account and went in and altered her page on the day she disappeared. Jacques also allegedly had Gagnon go on to MySpace and change Brooke's user name and password. Cell phone records show four calls between Jacques and Gagnon on the day Brooke disappeared.
According to the court papers, computer forensics traced activity on Brooke's page to San Antonio and Jacques' laptop.

Rope and tree are okay but can’t use a noose, those have been banned. Good news though is that a bowline around the neck is much slower and more painful...
What about the fact that this Cretan had been in jail for rape and kidnapping of another child?
I thought kidnappers were there, if not for life, for a very long time.
Any news on why the family allowed this man, family or not, around their child?
Works for me. ;-)
especially since he had, apparently, served time previously for rape and kidnapping of a child.
The judges that let these Cretans back at large, need to be charged as accessories
The Brooke’s father said he had never even met the uncle (Jacques). Jacques is the husband of the Brooke’s mother’s sister.
I volunteer to go up and take care of both the uncle and the former step-father. Maybe even the mother as well. Give me some rope.
Bill O’R will be on the war path abou this! Rightfully so.
Again with the creepy uncle and no-goodnik stepdad.
I was surprised he had even done 13 years for his previous rape.
We have learned more about Brooke Bennett's uncle Michael Jacques and his prior conviction for kidnapping and rape in 1992.
Jacques, 42, was charged Monday with raping a child repeatedly for five years and taking part in a sex ring called Breckenridge. This is not the first time the 42-year-old has been the focus of a sex crime investigation.
In 1993, he was convicted of kidnapping and rape committed in June 1992. Court records show that the victim was an 18-year-old young woman he supervised at a fast-food business in Rutland. The records show he and a friend got her drunk and then Jacques alone forced her into his car and over the next four hours raped her several times. The police affidavit says she was choked with a rope around her neck, gagged with a cloth in her mouth, and handcuffed with police-style cuffs. Police say Jacques eventually let her go after he told her he needed help and was going to seek psychiatric counseling.
The victim told police that Jacques said he had killed a 12-year-old girl he raped in Arizona in 1985 because she threatened to go to the police, "so he had to kill her."
The police were unable to confirm his claimed killing of the 12-year-old in Arizona, but Jacques did plead no contest to the charges of kidnap and rape in Vermont. In return, under a plea agreement, he got six years in prison, but was released after serving only four and half with credit for good time.
That 1992 plea deal also required Jacques to complete the sex offender treatment program before he could be released from probation. According to the records, he did complete the therapy program, and was released from state supervision in December 2006. Corrections officials say Jacques completed his sex offender treatment program in 2000.
Jacques does have another conviction-- in 1985 in Washington County for lewd and lascivious conduct. We are working to get the records in that case.

It is a fantasy of mine that when I win the lottery, I will use the money to buy or rent houses in the neighborhoods of the releasing judges and offer the perps that were released free use of the houses "while they get back on their feet".
Maybe living next door to these creeps will give judges pause for thought.
Just out of Helena in Clancy, Mt. we have “Hanging Tree Gulch”. The hanging tree is still there but not used for a while. I would pay his transportation to Clancy if someone else would buy a nice rough rope to make the noose.
