BOGOTA (Reuters) - French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt, three Americans and 11 other hostages were rescued from leftist guerrillas by Colombian troops on Wednesday after years in captivity, the government said.
Oh be quiet, you know the truth here, McCain didn’t have a damn thing to do with it. He has been too busy campaigning.
Don’t be a liar. McCain hasn’t been popular around here as far as I know. If you want to bend over for the liberal backstabber, be my guest.
You are nuts. Show me where I said I was voting for Barr, Obama or Nadar?
I am going to take a nap. You will have a very long search.
Now you are just damn funny. McCain IS a lefty. Sad thing is that you know it.
Bwhahahaaa!
THATS WHAT WE'RE THINKING AROUND HERE!! These men are co-workers at another division with Northrop Grumman and we are ECSTATIC they've been released!
Here is the communique we got from corporate:
We have great news to report. At long last, our 3 colleagues have been rescued from captivity in the Colombian jungles. Three Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems employees, Marc Gonsalves, Thomas Howes, and Keith Stansell, kidnapped five years ago by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), were freed by the Colombian military a short time ago. Watch the Colombian Hostage website on the ES Intranet for further details.
“Hancock,” beware!
I don’t care if he had a part in it or being down there at the time that the release happend which he was.
The extra Wesley Clark type remarks arn’t necessary.
I still see it as very oportune timing.
I will be glad to see those men free, no matter who they stand beside.
“Neutralized”, I like the sound of that.
Welcome home Marc, Thomas and Keith!!
This is also pretty much “it” for the FARC.
They killed their main PR/communications guy early this year, Tirofijo(sureshot) the main FARC guy died of natural causes months ago, and now they’ve lost their highest profile hostages.
Not to mention, desertions are way up.
Mono JoJoy is still out there, but these guys are becoming more irrelevant by the minute.
I’m also very interested on Chavez’ response and the semi-FARC sympthasizers in the Colombian government.
They probably could not just go in any time and gotten a successful rescue. They have tried on several occasions, and made a good effort in a dangerous situation. They've spotted the hostages a few times, but were unable to rescue them successfully, mindful of an incident last year when several Colombian hostage politicans were killed in a FARC "friendly fire" incident. Over time, the Colombian army has been able to disrupt a lot of FARC's command and control structure, and that probably helped the rescue effort today.
It's really a miracle that the hostages were rescued alive. Sometimes the better thing to do is wait for the right opportunity.
And now Uribe can take off the gloves and get more aggressive against FARC. Hopefully, the lefty politicians like Bentancourt have learned a lesson and will stay out of rebel-held areas as the next offensive unfolds.
Another article says there are still 100s more held.
The Colombian press conference had a military person saying there are still over 700 hostages (40+ military personel).
Since we’re not moderators, but playing them on FR, your point is a good one, indylindy: the thread topic suggests that McCain is somehow to be credited with the release of the hostages, but having been given the opportunity to produce any such evidence, instead we are all told to “shut up” and you are called a “smart ass”.
The McCainiacs are especially peckish today. They must have just seen the latest polls.
Thanks for the comments Hal. I know it sounds like I’m being unfair to the government down there, but this just seemed too well timed.
I too think it’s a great thing. I am impressed that they are still alive. I am impressed that they were freed alive.
I am happy for them.
You’re comments on Uribe and the lefty politicians was a good one. I agree with them.
Take care.
I guess some people will be happier if the Obamanation wins. In my life I always prefer disaster over imperfection. Don’t you?
“Oh, please, McCain had just as much to do with this as the blind guy selling pencils down on the corner. “
This was as coincidental to McCain’s visit as the Iranians releasing the American hostages the day Reagan was sworn in. NO damned coincidence at all.
