In polite liberal circles, Ralph Nader's suggestion that Barack Obama "wants to talk white" and avoid appearing like another Jesse Jackson is infra dig. Take, for example, Joan Walsh's reaction on yesterday's Hardball. Said the editor of Salon.com:
"I don't think that racism is too strong a word for what he said."
Added NY Times columnist Bob Herbert:
"It's a lousy, reprehensible comment."
But as uncomfortable as Nader's statement might make some people, could there be a kernel of truth to it? Joe Scarborough seems to think so. And even Prof. Michael DysonObama fan and commentator on racial mattersseemed to acknowledge that "ghetto-speak" would hurt Barack, going so far as to imitate the kind of street accent that could damage the candidate's campaign.

Was Nader right on Obama? Ping to Today show list.
I do not like Ralph Nader.
But this little “flare-up” just PROVES that if you are a white person then no matter what you say about B. Hussein, unless it is fawning praise, you will be called racist.
Infra Dig: adj. - Beneath one's dignity.
Thanks. I was wondering what I meant by that ;-)
Hussein’s not from da ‘hood. So?
I thought it was "Why you gotta go there, bro?"
Well, I presumed YOU knew ;->
Thought I would help others (and myself) out who are not so vocabularically accomplished as you.
Is there anyone on Planet America who hasn't been around blacks who "talk white" at work or in a social circle, but turn right around and "talk black" to a fellow black?
Oh, puleeze, and groan....Conversely, I've been around blacks and whites who speak the same to everyone, regardless of skin color.
It's been so obvious that Michelle employs the dialectics of "race" depending upon what audience she's seeking support from. And so, as they share the marital bed, Obama and Michelle, which dialectic do they use at home?
It's a fair question.
Nader didn’t say anything the Los Angeles Times wasn’t discussing in the “Barak, the Magic Negro” editorial. This is the one that some tried to pin on Limbaugh instead of its actual source.

I don’t think Obama has much “street creds”. Face it, he was raised white in white or Asian schools all his life. If, in fact, his father was actually 7/8 Arab and 1/8 negro, Arabs being a flavor of “causian” would make him 15/16 “causian” and 1/16 “negro”. (The real reason his birth certificate is “TOP SECRET”?)
Personally, I’m more or less indifferent to a person’s race, but since Obama is running on persona more than positions, I suppose it would make more of a difference to his supporters than his detractors. I find his politics dangerous when not vacuous, but he seems to have a decent enough character, unlike many Democratic politians I could name < cough> < Clintons>.
This is why I’ll only watch the show if Scarborough is on. He won’t just parrot the Dem talking points like the rest do. He actually puts some thought into his comments and opinions.
I really don’t get what this is all about.
Joe Biden said Obama was “articulate”, which is codespeak for a black person who speaks English properly. So that was supposed to be a compliment-a good thing, right?
Then Nader criticizes Obama for being “articulate” because he views it as not authentic.
From what I’ve heard and read, when black people speak English properly, they are scorned by their peers because it’s “acting white”. Black school children who do well in school are scorned because getting good grades is “acting white”.
So is it a good thing or bad thing if you say Obama speaks English well? This is getting ridiculous.
Of course it is.
It’s called an agenda. If somebody says something that can be construed nagatively - if they are with the MSM’s agenda, it will be ignored - if they are against the MSM agenda - they will be villified. This racist notion of whether or not Obama is “black enough” or “speaks white” or is “well-spoken” has been out there and lives, unfortunately in the American psyche. Commenting on that is not necessarily racist.
The Three Stooges.
Joe Biden's opinion is as irrelevant as he is. I can't believe Obama is even considering him as a running mate.
As far as articulate, Obama can read a teleprompter but I think McCain will shred him if it comes to a real one on one debate. I'm sure they will have to use the racism card on McCain at some point.
I think Nadar is making the point that Obama is putting up a phony front just to get elected. I agree with him on that one point.
I was with you right up until you said you think B. Hussein has a “decent enough character”. I think his political opponents in Chicago could shed some light on that. Also, his “business” associations in Chicago do not make me very comfortable regarding his character.
Not to mention that to all appearances he is a racist, which many consider to be a character flaw.
Obama speaks the Kings English... and he doesn't have to fake it. He was raised by... and surrounded by white, Hawaiian, Kenyan and Indonesian people in his youth who also spoke it well. There was no Ebonics influence in BO's upbringing.
IMO, Nader meant that talks white referred to Obama's reaching out to the guilt-ridden, socialist-leaning white voters... and the leftist DBM has taken Nader's poor analogy and has spun it in typical, race-card fashion.
However... it's funny to see a Marxist being eaten alive by a rabidly, socialist press!
Decent enough for a Democratic politician. He doesn’t seem to have the tunnel vision egomania of the Clintons, or a lot of other politicians. There’s something strange about the business of politics. You’d think it would increase self awareness, give you an appreciation of how others see you. For some, it seems to have the opposite effect. It makes them phonier. I suppose it’s a hazard when the LSM becomes your echo chamber.
This above all else, to thine ownself be true... was never spoken for a politician.
