Man kills baby and is shot to death by police
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | june 15, 2008 | Demian Bulwa

A young Turlock man parked a pickup truck on a dark country road outside his Central Valley city Saturday night, removed a baby boy from a car seat and then viciously beat the child in the street, fighting off passersby who tried to stop him until he was fatally shot by a police officer whose helicopter landed in a nearby pasture, police said today.

The 27-year-old suspect died immediately where he fell. The child, who according to police appeared to be 12 to 24 months old, was rushed to a hospital but was soon pronounced dead as well.

Police officials declined to identify the man this morning and said they did not yet know who the child was - or what his relationship was to his attacker. No information was immediately available about the baby's mother.

The suspect "had tunnel vision," said Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh, a department spokesman. "As people tried to intervene, to tackle him, he just went back to what he was doing. Anything and everything he could do to the baby, that's what he was doing."

Only God knows. I get so depressed when I see something like this. I just boggles my mind and sometimes I feel like there is no one to help us. I haven’t lost my faith of course and never will but oh sometimes I just wish God would come down and fix this world as only He can do. We are helpless and can’t do a thing about these kinds of things so we need help and we need it badly more and more every single day. “Suffer the little children...” :(

Exactly! I think the police officer who took the shot did a remarkable job considering the child was probably in extremly close proximity to the “target.” It’s unfortunate that the child couldn’t be saved.

“The evil that has always roamed this planet, looking for whoever it might devour, has been ramping up exponentially.

God have mercy upon us.”

REV 12:12 Therefore be glad (exult), O heavens and you that dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in fierce anger (fury), because he knows that he has [only] a short time [left]!

My feelings are much the same.

The other day I read a news report about some asteroid that scientists say has a chance of hitting the Earth a few years from now and wiping us all out. So help me, the first thing I thought was “good”. Despite Bach, German pancakes, and the moon landings, the human race is in many ways a blight on the universe.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m part of the problem. I’m a sinner just like everybody else. Even so, some sins are (by God’s Grace) completely beyond me. Even at my worst, there are certain things that I could never do — not because I’m a saint, but because I find them grotesque, sickening, and contrary to life. And it isn’t just me; people around the world and from every faith or none find these things horrifying. No matter what culture a person might be from, there are certain acts that disgust everybody. (I’ll spare you the details; I’m sure everybody can think of the kind of things I mean here.) To commit these sins requires a special kind of cooperation with evil — the kind Judas Iscariot practiced. To perform these acts is to willfully negate one’s humanity at its root level. It is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Most people sin because they are weak and selfish, but some people sin because they actively want to do evil. I think people who hurt children are such people.

May God protect the innocent of the world, and give the rest of us the courage to fight those who prey upon them.

Having lived in Turlock, I find it odd that the Modesto Police Helicopter was there. I’m glad it was, but I wonder about jurisdiction - I wonder if that will be an issue? Or if may have been a Stanislaus Sheriff?

Yes, you do anything to protect the baby. They could have started smashing the windows of his truck, and he would have probably gone after them and let the baby alone long enough for some additional help.

My God…If the end isn’t here it must be mighty damned close. Heaven help us and Lord please shelter this poor baby’s soul. I’m moved to tears…

From the local modbee.com

A Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department helicopter, flown by a deputy with a Modesto police officer in the second seat, was on patrol in the Turlock area and was first on scene, said Dep. Royjindar Singh, the sheriff's spokesman.

"The helicopter spotlights the scene and sees this guy just beating on this infant or baby in the middle of the road. I can't imagine what that looked like," Singh said.

It's probably a safe bet, an adult wanting to kill a baby wouldn't take long. Not a great scene to come across on a secluded rural road. One thing lacking in the story, is the ID of this guy. Surprised the name of the dead guy was not made public.

This isn’t the fault of witnesses. They tried to help. No telling how many got injured attempting to stop him. The responsibility rests with the guy beating the child..

I’m sure many are glad that there were no weapons, “as it only would have added to the numbers dead from this matter.”

Idiots.

I'll be thinking about this poor baby and wondering who he belonged to for a long time. God rest his little soul.

He is one of God's Children, especially now.

DU`ers are condemning the police officer and are suggesting the guy who killed the baby is an Iraq veteran.

got a link? I scrolled back a few pages and didn’t see anything.

Not familiar with that region in regards to jurisdiction, however, many seem to lose sight of how long it would take someone to kill a little baby, or young kid. Not long for an adult.

That being said, it appears it was a very rural road, not heavily traveled, with crops etc...And yes, I too am surprised a chopper was involved...First LE on the scene?... Seems to indicate it was so remote, the helicopter made it there first...Don't know about the jurisdiction...

Did you know that you can make a quite serviceable cane out of a hickory ax handle?

The “trick” is carving the head to a “palm-conforming, orthopedic shape” and shaving the handle end down just enough to resemble a legit walking stick.

[not that I know anything about this personally, mind you]

The world has gone insane.

No, but the human mind is a fragile thing. This man was sick; mentally sick and short of early diagnosis and hospitalization not a thing can be done to prevent this kind of explosion of insanity.

My prayers for the poor child.

On Sunday, deputies tried to establish the relationship between the 27-year-old man and the boy, who appeared to be between 1 and 2 years old, according to the Stanislaus County coroner’s office. Coroner’s deputies believe they know the boy’s identity, but “due to the severity of his injuries making a visual identification is nearly impossible,” Singh said. “That in itself tells of the brutality of this attack.”

Police hope to contact family members today, Singh said, but it appears many live out of the area.

“We’re trying to contact family members,” he said. “Some of the key questions we’re trying to answer is why this happened? What was going on before the suspect left? Where was he going? Where had he been? What was going on in his life that day?”

Investigators weren’t releasing the suspect’s identity pending notification of family.

Perhaps you should mention that had the child been *much* younger, Obamaessiah would have supported having scissors rammed into his skull and his brains sucked out, instead.
