If world had a vote, it would be for Obama, poll shows

WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is far more popular around the world than Republican presidential candidate John McCain, according to a 24-nation poll released Thursday by the Pew Global Attitudes Survey.

The Pew study finds that Obama is wildly popular among traditional U.S. allies in Western Europe and Australia, where people have become alienated by American foreign policy during the Bush years.

Among the nations polled, Obama was most popular in France and Tanzania, where 84 percent of citizens said they had confidence in his leadership. Other hotbeds of Obama enthusiasm are Germany (82 percent), Australia (80 percent), Japan (77 percent), Britain (74 percent) and Spain (72 percent).

"Barack Obama has strong international appeal just about everywhere," said Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center. "He's made quite a splash across the seas."

Obama's global popularity could be a double-edged sword domestically, Kohut said, with some Americans thinking that they don't want foreigners telling them who to choose.

While Obama enjoys widespread global popularity, McCain merits the confidence of a majority of residents in just one of the 24 nations surveyed — the United States. He runs nearly 50 percentage points behind Obama in Germany and France. And he has the confidence of 25 percent or less of the population in eight of the countries surveyed: Spain, Russia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, Pakistan and Mexico.

Despite the persistent and false Internet rumors that Obama is a Muslim, the Illinois senator receives his worst ratings in Islamic nations and Mexico: 10 percent in Pakistan, 20 percent in Turkey, 22 percent in Jordan, 29 percent in Mexico.

So, if our enemies had a vote they would vote for Obama? Well, that should tell people something...

When looked at it that way, I suppose it matters.

Actually, the best argument that I've heard to NOT vote for Obama is that Jimmy Carter supports him.

Sadly I talked to a young girl I met last night. She is 20 years old, a student, and part-time grocery cashier. Middle class white from a 2 parent home, graduated with honors from high school.

I was just asking simple questions and it popped into my head to ask who she would vote for. She answered “I guess Obama”. I looked at her with a blank face and ask “why”? She said she really didn’t know just that she had heard he was really popular and gave good speeches.

I asked if she knew any of his policy stances and she said not really.

I asked who else she had heard was running for President and she said Hillary and some other guy who is a senator. I told her she might want to read a bit on what these people stand for before she votes. I am too tired to educate morons about their civil duty.

Sad just real sad that our young voters are voting based on hearsay and apparent popularity ( all construed by MSM ) and know nothin of what this mouth breathing muslim stands for.

"Change, change, change"....

OK...fine....here are 3 questions:

1. SPECIFICALLY what change(s)?

2. More importantly...SPECIFICALLY how???

3. By When???

Until he can answer these 3 questions...he's just using up air for no useful purpose.

Does anyone really care what those jealous America-hating crybabies think?

But who knows. After the judicial lunacy of yesterday, the SCOTUS may extend voting rights in US elections to the entire global population one day in the not-too-distant future.

Heaven help us.

Slick willie got elected because women thought he was "cute" and/or "sexy".

Well, I would suggest the world approach the Supreme Court of the United States then, because it says the U.S. Constitution covers everyone. If we as citizens have a right to vote, then every citizen around the world should.

>Who cares?<

Think of it this way. Every legal immigrant wishing to become an American citizen from Germany , Australia , Japan , Britain and Spain , Russia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, Pakistan and Mexico is going to be a Democrat by a 3 out of 4 percentage. Every anchor baby form those countries is going to be a Democrat by a 3 out of 4 percentage.

Is it thinking in yet? In 30 years there won't be an America and you say who cares! I do and I realize that the war is lost. Not the battles, because I'll keep fighting until I'm dead.

It is so sad to read this type of anecdote. It does underscore what ignorant people we have produced in this country. When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, the average life expectancy was under 50 - they established a minimum age of 21 - 40% of then prevailing expectancy. They required a voter to own property.

Now, with a life expectancy of almost 80, we allow children of 18 the franchise - additionally, we granted the franchise to women. Two horrible mistakes. One should be about 35 and only males should vote - preferably, only men who have served in the military. The country has screwed itself - God help us.

More proof that these benighted regions are behind us on the saturation-media learning curve.

Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels essentially invented activist media, but the US led the way in making it a factor in democratic politics. It is therefore natural that we would be first to reach the stage of skepticism about media objectives and methods and be ahead of all other countries in liberating ourselves from the tyranny of the media-industrial complex. The latter is not the “free press” of the founding Fathers, it is an unelected, unaccountable shadow government whose policies serve only its own greed and the depraved personal values of its members and participants.

For all their pretense of sophistication and “nuance” Europeans are gullible as sheep about what they see in the media. It might as well be 1975 there as far as media credibility is concerned. Obama’s popularity is no surprise at all, he is the purest essence of the demonic alliance of activist media and the political process.

I am all for going back to voters having to own property ( be it land, house, condo; cars and cell phones don’t count ) it shows you have an interest in the welfare of this country.

As long as 18 years old serve in military they should vote. Women, I have my opinion, but they should vote as well if they fulfill the property ( via marriage or solo ) and age requirement.

But since we know how effed up most of the world is, it's comforting to see that they're just as screwed up in their support of this quisling candidate.

If the world had a vote, they could vote for the leaders of their own countires.

Most people don’t.
