FRIDAY EVENING, WALTER REED FRONT GATE:

A sultry evening, hot and humid, typical Washington summer weather, albeit earlier then usual. But we had plenty of ice-cold water and sodas to help combat the heat. It did cool off at dusk and no one wilted.

As we were setting up, VictoryNY, with only a sign, began to capture the attention of drivers and passengers. Throughout the evening we had positive participation on all four corners. RonGKirby didn’t disappoint as he continued to bring a relevant sign for the day. Tonight, of course, his message was to thank the WW II soldiers for June 6, 1944.

Once in awhile, a passenger in a car has a different message for us. Tonight, a young guy tried and failed to show us a drive-by moon. Just another typical moonbat. .

Cindy_True_Supporter insured that we had had delicious pizza and cold drinks. Our food and soda is for all who join us as visitors or FReepers.

We welcomed two buses tonight. We call them the big bus and the small bus, and are especially satisfied when we are there to welcome both. Tonight’s pictures are by VAFlagWaver.

FRIDAY EVENING VISITORS:

As usual, some of our visitors were visiting for the first time and several were repeaters who drop by when they are in DC. All are welcome and we enjoy meeting everyone.

A repeater is Sergeant Ron Frye who will be at WR for sometime into the future. Meanwhile he works with other wounded soldiers at WR and with groups assisting WR patients. He is planning to be the first patient at WR to have a “life suit”. This will be possible due to the They Shall Walk organization. Sgt Frye has served in Panama, Hondoras, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He was accompanied by James, a Specialist who had a hand injury while in Iraq. They both had lively and positive attitudes and were fun to be with.

Both asked to go down the block to see the moonbats in action. Normally, one of the regulars accompanies them to take a count and insure we don’t step into their permit space. It’s like going into a circus sideshow. You are drawn by a morbid curiosity, you look but aren’t sure what you are seeing. Tonight some were wearing pink! Another confusing evening down the street.

Moonbats

One of our stalwart neighborhood supporters, Steve, stopped by for awhile saying he had once again successfully run the moonbat gauntlet on his bike. He normally engages in some give and take with the moonbat leader. He “gives” a lot to them, and takes very little from them. Tonight was no exception.

Biker Steve

A former Walter Reed patient, Adrian, stopped by to visit with us. VictoryNY had met him while he was a patient. It was good to see him.

Our last visitors were escorted by TankerBabe, from Memphis. She is very active in projects and organizations which help wounded soldiers. With her were Jeddah, a Specialist, and Adam, a PFC, both members of the 173rd Airborne, and were wounded in Afghanistan.

JUNE 6TH , D-DAY NOTES:

Friday, June 6th, 2008. The 64th anniversary of D Day, the beginning of the end of Hitler’s plan to impose his master plan on the world. Three years into a world war, over 165,000 American soldiers landed at Normandy on this day, and successfully breached Hitler’s so-called Atlantic Wall. We remember and salute those brave American soldiers who paid a great price for our ultimate victory.

On Monday, The Washington Times had a wonderful article with Photos, which reported a striking coincidence It starts as follows:

“The Bravo Company , 506th Infantry Regiment, Combined Task Force Currabee, executed an air assault and drop-off on June 6th in eastern Paktika province near the Pakistani border. This military action against a stronghold of the Taliban insurgency came 44 years to the day after their predecessors, the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment landed in Normandy and changed the course of WW II.”

This article reinforces the importance of our presence to support the troops today, as well as to remember all the troops who have served before.

Thanks very much to all.
BTW, my limited Spanish translates the appeaser’s sign to read, “Enough already with the war”.

Lord willing, I will be there. Last week, I felt like I was hit by a truck. You’ll still hear a bit of sickness in my voice, but the doc says I am not contagious.

I'll second [Mrs] T's comment, "Great report and Great pictures. you both make a great team."

Sounds like another good night to have been at Walter Reed, especially with the two buses.

HEADS UP ALL: June 20, Vets for Freedom and Families United will be in town. We will be having visitors that night so come on down and welcome the out-of-towners.

In addition to Saturday, June 14th, being Flag Day, it is also the 233rd United States Army Birthday!

It is America’s Army and consists of:
Soldiers
Families
Civilians

The weather this Friday evening at Walter Reed looks good.

See you there....

RE 233rd B-Day: Taking a cue from RongKirby, looks like some new signs need to be made up.
