John Wayne was born on May.26.1907 in Winterset Iowa as Marion Robert Morrison.His parents were Clyde Morrison a pharmacist and Mary Morrison.The Duke passed away on June. 11. 1979 from a long bout with lung and stomach cancer.

Here is a little Trivia about John Wayne. Did you know..... That in 1980 he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom,the highest civilian award,by then President Carter
That he was voted the 4th Greatest Movie Star of all time by Prmiere Magazine. That he adressed the Republican National Convention on its opening Day in 1968.

Click here I wanted to have this tribute ready for his 101 Birthday,but circumstances beyond my control prevented it,so I saved this for the 29 th Anniversary of his passing.
John Wayne was not only a patriot and hero on the screen,but also in true live.

The Duke did a lot of good films but he got stereotyped aa a rough and tumble B-movie cowboy. Didn't slow him down a bit though.....he capitalized on it with stellar performance in
True Grit.

The John Wayne Cancer Institute and Foundation are in Santa Monica, CA, started at UCLA where I was working at the time as the John Wayne Cancer Clinic.
We also have a nice-sized John Wayne Airport in Orange County (south of L.A.).
Should I go on?:)

Several years ago I visited the Morrison Clan at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. I noticed a list of famous Morrisons and one of them was Marion Michael Morrison aka John Wayne.
BTW, my middle name is Morrison.
