I wanted to have this tribute ready for his 101 Birthday, but circumstances beyond my control prevented it,so I saved this for the 29 th Anniversary of his passing.

John Wayne was not only a patriot and hero on the screen, but also in true live.

I hope you all will enjoy this thread.

Star Trek had scripts?!

I kid, that’s my favorite series out of the whole lot of ‘em. Interesting bit of trivia though! Never knew it.

John Wayne SERVED a greater purpose here at home. His commitment to his country was right up there with all the troops who actually served, who loved him dearly, and is on par with any hero!

I hope Bob Hope gets that same distinction!

Sending prayers for Chaplain (LTC) Larry Blum and his family.

Praying that the Great Healer will lend a hand to Chaplain Blum’s Doctors and that he will give him strength to win this battle with the brain tumor.

God bless this man and his family.

We live in the Pacific Northwest....John Wayne has a connection here, one that I think most people are probably unaware of....

Whenever we go camping up on the Peninsula of Washington State, we always make sure, that we take a picnic lunch, and then head on over to the John Wayne Marina, either in or near Sequim Washington, in what is known as the ‘banana belt’ of Washington, because Sequim gets much less rain than other portions of Western Washington, having something to do, with Sequim sitting in the shadow of the Olympic Mountains...Sequim is also usually warmer, than the rest of Western Washington...we sit out at one of the concrete picnic tables, watch the boats going in and out of the Marina, and think about John Wayne.....this marina, is just not named in honor of John Wayne, the Wayne family donated the waterfront land for the marina to be built on....apparently John Wayne loved to fish the waters off of Washington State, and he was a regular boater on these waters...here is a long, but interesting article about this facet of Waynes life, that I am sure, most people are quite unaware of....there is also a rather snappy picture of Wayne, proudly displaying some of the fish he has caught..as well as a picture of Wayne’s boat, that he apparently loved, and the boat was called the Wild Goose...

Here is the link to this article, it is long, but quite interesting...

http://www.rossink.com/2008/02/articles/northwest-personal-stories/the-duke-on-the-northwest-a-john-wayne-memoir/

And this next link is to a site, that has a picture of the John Wayne Marina as it is today, along with other pics and cams of other points of interest in the area...you will need to scroll all the way to the bottom of this page, to find the pic of the John Wayne Marina...

One can either have a picnic at the marina, or one can go into the restaurant on site...we have not been there for a few years now, but the last time we were there, altho we had a picnic lunch, the hubby went into the restaurant, and he was able to purchase any number of pics of John Wayne, which he did...

http://www.washingtonstatewebcams.com/sequim-washington-webcams.html

Thank you John Wayne for all the joy you gave us in the movies, and thanks for donating the land for this marina....

I listened to Takei’s autobiography in the car back when I commuted 50 miles each way (gas was a buck a gallon).
