Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 06/10/2008 Pelosi Statement on Senate Republicans Blocking Legislation to Lower Gas Prices, Invest in Renewables

Washington, D.C. – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today in response to Senate Republicans blocking consideration of the Consumer-First Energy Act and the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008:

“Senate Republicans have once again shown themselves to be unwilling to break free of the costly, failed Bush energy policies of the past. They have again adopted President Bush’s ‘drill and veto’ policy that is driving up the price of oil, diesel, and gasoline and leaving us dangerously reliant on Middle East oil.

“President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Senate Republicans have shown no leadership on energy issues for seven years, which is why we face a growing energy crisis. If Republicans will not lead us to a cleaner, more independent energy future for America then they should at least get out of the way.

“The House will soon put forward new, innovative legislation to help tackle high energy costs and make us more energy independent.”

* * *

Background

The legislation the Senate was considering would have been another critical step toward lowering energy prices, providing for cleaner, renewable alternatives that would make our nation more energy independent and secure, and creating hundreds of thousands of new green collar jobs.

In just the last few months, Congress successfully pressed the Bush Administration into investigating oil market price manipulation, passed a Farm Bill that boosts home-grown, advanced biofuels production, halted deliveries to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to increase oil supply in the market, and passed legislation that invests in clean, renewable, and efficient energy technologies, including tax incentives for plug-in hybrid cars, energy efficient homes and appliances.

This woman is one of the stupidest people ever born.

Problem is, our side doesn’t produce positive ideas for the private sector anymore. They are given to big government and power, but aren’t as adept as the Democrats at practicing it.

If our side were using every radio and TV appearance for demanding an end to regulations preventing drilling and refineries from being built, things would be quite different. This election would turn upside down. They aren’t doing that because they only give lip service to what we want. They are perfectly happy with the scraps the Democrats toss them.

That’s how they governed as the majority. The Democrats still set the agenda.

We should send these ass clowns back to grade school to relearn math

renewable alternatives that would make our nation more energy independent and secure,

There are no renewable alternatives available in the volume we need to lower the demand for petroleum

Last time I looked they were mandated 15 % of the energy produced to be renewable alternatives

Ain't going to happen and it will make it very expensive since every energy producer will be looking to buy it.

“Senate Republicans Blocking Legislation to Lower Gas Prices”

Oh boy nancy…that’s a good one! For any RAT to make a statement like that after 40 years of their party trying to destroy this nation’s energy infrastructure is beyond comprehension. I’m convinced the RAT party considers us all idiots.

Where is your answer Pelosi? More taxes? Yea like that will "lower gas prices". Only a complete imbecilic moron would think that raising taxes will lower prices.

I swear we should just let this crap pass so we can point to the Dems and say "we told you so". Problem is getting it retracted is harder then getting something done in the first place.

And were is the GOP? Why aren't they on the offensive?

>>She’s full of biofuels...<<
I’m stealing that!
Pelosi said pretty much the same in a May 7th 2008 press release again citing drilling as a culprit:
“Drilling is the failed energy policy of yesterday that has brought us
record gas prices today...”

In an April 24th, 2006 press release Pelosi stated:
“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices...”

When the democrats took control of congress in Jan 2007, the cost of regular conventional retail gas was $2.29 p/gal.
At the current price of $4.00 p/gal ave. USA that equates to a 75% incrrease since the onset of dem control of congress.

Pelosi! Your plan is not working.

I thought this Pelosi bitch said in 2004 that the dems would lower the price of gasoline by $1.50. What happened to that campaign promise? Where is the PLAN? What? What? That is what I thought Ms.Pelosi. Nothing but the selence of fading echos of lies. Wipe you own butt, Ms. Pelosi, before you say someone else stinks. Sorry I am getting so bitter so early in the election cycle.

I have always wondered that. Ethyl alcohol and methyl alcohol are hygroscopic. I don’t know why alcohol in a gas tank would not similarly be hygroscopic.

Darn right their plans don’t work, Ms. Pelosi has a cranial-rectal inversion.

The price of gasoline has doubled since they took over Congress, but that ditzi broad blames the Prez.

But the pubs are too gutless to hit them head on.

Exactly. While they vote against some of the socialist legislation, they DO NOT FIGHT, they do not produce, they do not control or pursue control.

My take is Pelosi LIKES high gas prices. And, she wants them higher. It permits her to bash President Bush, bash ‘Big oil’ and make driving so prohibitive that it will get people out of their cars ie. take a bit of our freedom away.

Democrats are all about class warfare, punishing success and redistributing stolen income to their faithful losers at the bottom of the income scale in exchange for votes. Obami talks about giving people making under $50K a tax break. That's real brave. They hardly pay any taxes. It won't "cost" much to give this group a "break" while maximally screwing those making over $100k to "pay" for it. The gullible on the low end of the income scale will fall for this ploy, then wonder why they are suddenly standing in the unemployment line. Surprise! The "rich" people who just got screwed were your employers.

Sadly, she knows her audience.

The dems get away with this sort of nonsense because a majority of the public hasn't a clue how a business operates, how commodity markets work, or how much more per gallon the GOVERNMENT at all levels takes in than the oil company.
