Other websites have sprung up to denounce Democrats for picking Obama. One - called PUMA, an acronym for the sentiment “Party Unity My Ass” - features postings by Clinton supporters saying they will never vote for Obama, even if it means electing McCain.

That would actually be hitting Obama from the left and the left.
Dems and Republicans were not the original two parties in this country, and there's no reason to think either one will be around forever. Whigs, Federalists, Democrat-Republicans, Free Soil, Populists, Progressives (Bull Moose).... all have seen history pass them by.
Starting with this election, we may see the genesis of one or two new majority parties, eventually destined to replace the Dems and/or GOP as presently constituted.

The party has to die first before the real pieces will show up. The Republican Party will not die this year, but it may go on life support. The Dems will have power so there’s no problem for them this year (they’ve being bitten on the rump by the Green Party anyway, but an Obama presidency will doom the Green party to the political graveyard). I’m not sure what you would foresee replacing the current arrangement. For example: Social conservatives will not join a Libertarian Party, and vice-versa.

I, for one, am glad to help Mrs. Clinton raise the $30 million. (And I'm a little surprised that more kindhearted FReepers aren't willing to help this poor woman-in-need.)
