Sen. Hillary Clinton will drop out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination Friday, The Post has learned.
Her decision ends speculation about what she would do after Sen. Barack Obama captured the nomination yesterday.
Last night, a defiant Clinton conceded nothing to Obama.
In a speech at Baruch College, Clinton said she needed time to consider her next move.
Clinton ran down the list of every state she has won, trumpeted the nearly 18 million people who voted for her in this year's contests and demanded that her supporters be given "respect."
Clinton also said she had won the "swing states" needed to get the 270 electoral votes to capture the White House, as her supporters broke into chants of, "Yes, we will!" - a dig on Obama's slogan, "Yes we can!"
But today party leaders began calling for Clinton to drop out, hoping that such a move would encourage party unity.
"I don't see why we don't get on with it and endorse [Obama]," said Rep. Charles Rangel, a Clinton supporter. He said it was only a matter of time before he and other Clinton supporters formally back Barack.

I’ll believe it when she does it!
seems anti-climatic.
When did this become journalism?
If she didnt concede last night, why would she on friday?
“Clinton also said she had won the “swing states” needed to get the 270 electoral votes to capture the White House”
Well except it was the Dem primary and not the general election.
McCain to pick her as his V.P. on Monday.
She diminished Obama’s victory by being a bad sport. Now she’s willing to concede? How white of her...
“I stand before you on the 40th anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination...”
She infuriated Obama and top Dems with last night's speech. It was all about her, not Dems or victory or Obama.
Supposedly her phone rang off the hook today.
Gist of messages was: “So you wanted to hear from your Washington colleagues and party leaders? Well, you're hearing from us. Get the hell out, and take your idiotic husband with you.”

ABC News has learned Sen. Hillary Clinton told supporters on a conference call Wednesday that she will appear alongside her supporters on Friday. All indications are that Clinton will concede her presidential race there, two Democratic sources tell ABC News’ Kate Snow.
Despite the settled delegate math Sen. Barack Obama needed 2,118 delegates to win and has 2,166 to Clinton’s 1919, according to ABC News’ delegate scorecard, Clinton had said she will take a few days to think about her next move.
But some of her most loyal backers have begun to publicly urge her to exit the race and unify the Democratic Party behind Obama.
If this is true, I’m guessing there IS no Michelle Obama tape.
That report is not right, Fox reported as breaking news a few min ago that she is only SUSPENDING the campaign and NOT ending it, on Friday. She is keeping her delegates for now, but won’t be actively campaigning at this time...lol
The way the media has treated the whole primary process, they only saw the Democrats. As far as they are concerned, that is all that matters. I wonder if the reason for the Montana results is that the vote is limited to longtime extremist Democrats, and/or an extreme visceral dislike of HRC.
IF there is a tape it would be best to wait AFTER she concedes. I’m sure people with the supposed tape know that!
Man that is sweet!
