Hillary Clinton's aides prepare to concede

Senior advisers to Senator Hillary Clinton have prepared the ground for her to abandon her presidential ambitions within days rather than disputing the Democratic nomination all the way to the party convention in August.

Senator Barack Obama is expected to be able to declare himself the party's candidate against Senator John McCain as early as tomorrow, when South Dakota and Montana become the final states to hold their primaries. Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said the nomination would be decided this week: "We don't want to go to the convention, have a big fight at the convention, and lose the presidency."

A dispute over whether and how to seat delegates from Michigan and Florida was resolved on Saturday by giving each delegate only half a vote as a penalty for those states defying the party by holding early primaries.

The Clinton camp was unhappy with the decision, which raised the number of delegates needed for victory from 2,025 to 2,118, but showed little appetite to challenge.

Just after the polls close, Mr Obama, who could be accompanied by senior Democratic Party figures, is to hold a huge rally in St Paul, Minnesota, at the venue where Mr McCain is due to accept the Republican nomination in September.

His aides were working furiously yesterday to amass the two dozen or so "super-delegates" – party officials whose convention votes are not tied to the primaries – he would need to ensure that the South Dakota and Montana results give him a majority.

I wonder who is doing her work for New York as our Senator? Do you still get paid when you take time off to run for election?

And Senator Obama, and Senator McCain.

Some idiot on Fox just mentioned that but then said that in light of Scotty's new book on how the Bush Administration LIED and DECEIVED the American people, that today John McCain is reallllllly depressed that he rode the B.S. Express all those years. And Bret Baier let him get away with that.

My personal opinion is she is holding out, or maybe a better way to say it she's holding the convention hostage for SCOTUS seat when Ruth Ginsberg retires.

Hillary does not have the legal aptitude to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Ginsburg does, even if I disagree with here vehemently.

“Hillary seems to be pulling out all the stops in South Dakota. We are being barraged with TV and radio ads, I have been getting about one automated phone call a day. Even Bill and Chelsea are still stumping the state. The race seems too close to call, but we will know on Tuesday. Hillary is like a zombie in a horror movie and just keeps coming back even when thought dead.”

Thanks to the ego of Rush Limbaugh.

Who is releasing this to the news? Are they sure that Obama’s camp isn’t spreading these rumors???

Hillary isn’t going anywhere and the women and other supporters are getting loud now. They are TICKED because they are experiencing how the elitist in the DNC will do whatever they can to steal an election even in their own primary. Absolutely Amazing!!

Agreed, but what does that have to do with her being made a nominee.

Do you really think the dems on the Judicial committee care if she's qualified. They heold up for years highly qualified individual for political purposes, I see no reason they would not vote to made her SCOTUS for political payback.

What? You can't let some uppity one term Senator steal your Presidency. It's your turn, dammit!

Take it all the way to the convention. If you lose at the convention, take it to the courts.

Nonsense.

I have a Buffalo nickel that says she takes this to the Convention. Why not? She can keep hammering on him and hope to shift some of those super-delegates back her way.

This is far from over.

” She can keep hammering on him and hope to shift some of those super-delegates”

If Obama keeps losing the way he has been...

Though recent polls in South Dakota have not been encouraging for Hillary Clinton’s case. A month ago, she was down by 12% there. Granted, this past month has not been kind to Obama...

After pastor dumping and church dumping, I think we’re going to see some spouse dumping. Hillary and Obama will divorce their respective, tainted spouses, and marry each other to create the Democratic co-presidential dream ticket. With the women’s vote and the black vote in the Democrat lockbox, Al Gore and Howard Dean will marry each other and become the co-vice-presidential component of the dream ticket, to win the gay vote.
