I knew JFK, says Gore Vidal, and believe me Obama’s the better leader ( Race revolt if Obama loses)
Sunday Times ^ | May 18, 2008 | Melvyn Bragg

Posted on 05/17/2008 9:29:35 PM PDT by tlb

So what does he think of Hillary Clinton’s stated intention to fight on? “I think her strategy is more or less insane.”

. . . But this long campaign, this daily search for the grail, has driven her crazy.”

In his view Barack Obama has won; and if the nomination is taken away from him, “I fear what our black population might do. There has never been a revolution of blacks – yet”.

As for Obama, “I liked the idea of him, but he never managed to get my interest. I was brought around by his overall intelligence – specifically when he did his speech on race and religion.”

In Vidal’s opinion, “he’s our best demagogue since Huey Long or Martin Luther King”.

I ask if he thinks Obama has a similar charisma to that of John F Kennedy.

“I never believed in Jack’s charisma,” Vidal says shortly. JFK, he believes, was “one of our worst presidents”; Bobby, his brother, was “a phoney, a little Torquemada”; and their father, Joseph, was “a crook – should have been in jail”.

His views on the man the Democratic candidate will have to beat are even more brutal than his views on Hillary: “ You could beat McCain! I’ve never met anyone in America who has the slightest respect for him. He went to a private school and came bottom of his class. He smashed up his aeroplane and became a prisoner of war, which he is trying to parlay into ‘war hero’.”

“The Bush people”, he says, “have virtually got rid of Magna Carta and habeas corpus. In a normal republic I would probably have raised an army and overthrown them. It will take a hundred years to put it all back.”

“All the Army would have to do is evacuate the whites and Latinos and then turn off the electricity, gas, water, and stop all food and fuel shipments.”

This is delusional thinking, it is never going to happen. And because so much critical infrastructure runs right through or past black ghettos (highways, rail lines, pipelines, powerlines etc) they could cripple our economy simply by cutting or disrupting these lines.

It will be worst for those who live in mixed patchwork-quilt cites, where folks cannot help but rub up against the other ethnic groups. The personal and economic consequences of needing to drive through the wrong neighborhood can be disastrous. This is the main reason I strongly recommend living in an area immersed in and surrounded by your own ethnic group.

"Liberals would rather die than face the truth.."

In this election cycle, we should step up in obliging them that high honor.

“At the risk of sounding alarmist or paranoid, I’m afraid we could see an outbreak of urban violence . . .”

Might I suggest sitting down in a nice quiet place, drink a glass of milk and your afternoon graham crackers and leave the urban warfare scenario games to the military.

PS America trains much of the rest of the world’s personnel tasked with urban riot control.

PPS We are really, really good at urban warfare. Black Muslims, Jihadi nutcases, and Latin American thugs are no match for the US military.

Enjoy your crackers.

;-)

Whatever. When MLK was assassinated, groups of blacks rioted in the place where I lived as a child. Our neighborhood parents organized an armed militia and shot at any groups of blacks who approached or drove by our neighborhood.

Did you grow up in Newark? They did the same in the East and North Wards of that city (my family is from the East Ward).

Most of the black folks you are describing believe that they can intimidate any white person by “going black” (ie aggressive) on them. This works with many urbanites/suburban skips, but I should point out that many of these folks are selling wolf tickets, and will be sent to shock if you push back.

they either rely on the wolf pack to geek them up

or on white guilt/fear

that’s been my experience but I’m growing old now for all that

“I fear what our black population might do. There has never been a revolution of blacks – yet”

Unfortunately, he’s correct. Anything less than Obama winning the Presidency will be perceived by many blacks as nothing more than “whitey screwing over one of the brothers”.

At the risk of sounding alarmist or paranoid, I’m afraid we could see an outbreak of urban violence much worse than the Rodney King riots back in ‘92. I recall stories of whites being harrassed and beat up in a number of cities across the US.”

I thought there were smart people here. This article only serves to exacerbate something that exists at a far lower level of intensity than is put forth in the article. Instead of realizing that this weak article is merely the latest attempt by the media to fan the flames of racial friction, many of the people who comment here buy it wholesale. I don’t know who is worse, the guy who wrote the article or the people who believe it.

Does the name Custer mean anything to anyone anymore?

I dare say that an armed uprising such as the one suggested will be met with overwhelming (armed) resistance. Rodney King ain’t goan’ happen again, hoss.

Don’t count me among the weak, Wardaddy. I defy ANYONE of ANY ethnic background to try and take me or my home by force. I can handle myself empty-handed, with firearms, with knives, and with clubs and sticks of all sizes. I have no criminal record so I can buy more guns and a LOT of ammo with no problems.

Anyone puts their hands on me (or come near my family) in anger or with otherwise violent intent, I WILL - most assuredly - kill them with remorseless, dispassionate efficiency.

Aside from that, live and let live....

A LOT of people feel the way I do.

Morning! I was in Saint Louis when it happened. West side, not the East side where it was really bad. My dad used to tell me the story and my mom's repeated it a few times. I was too young to know any better.

My mom always said that was her favorite place to live and that the neighbors there were the best of anywhere we had lived as a family.

I know you know better. You were brought up right.

Here in Nashville amongst the “educated folks”, they are naive and weak for the most part.

They don’t deal with Memphis or Jackson demographics either,
