Sen. John McCain really does want to tempt the Republican base. ...
We've gotten our hands on an advanced transcript of this weekend's "The Chris Matthews Show" on NBC and the British Broadcasting Corporation's Katty Kay offered this nugget during the show's "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" segment:
"John McCain is going to be doing more of these themed tours of America, and one of them is going to be on energy and global climate change. It could get him into trouble with Republicans, of course, and with the base, who don't think there is much climate change going on, but it is something that he's very passionate about and he's going to be talking about it."
McCain makes Ron Paul look like a viable option.
STEPHANOPOULOS: How about on the issue of climate change? Because you and Sen. [Joe] Lieberman [I-Conn.] have come out for a bill which would have mandatory reductions in greenhouse gases. No wonder McCain admits he doesn't know much about economics. Who does he think is going to pay for GE making all that profit, since he says it isn't the American taxpayer? Will President McCain just mandate that profits will henceforth grow on trees? Where is the profit from those mandated fluorescent bulbs coming from? Is McCain secretly suggesting he will set up a program to provide free fluorescent bulbs to the American people, since he says "It won't cost the American taxpayer"?
MCCAIN: Gradual reductions, yes.
STEPHANOPOULOS: But they are mandatory.
MCCAIN: Yes.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Are you sticking by that?
MCCAIN: What I mean by that is that it's cap-and-trade, that there will be incentives for people to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It's a free-market approach. The Europeans are using it now. We did it in the case of addressing acid rain -- look, if we do that, we stimulate green technologies. I have great faith in the American industry. General Electric, the world's largest corporation, has announced they're dedicated to green technologies. This will be profit-making business.
It won't cost the American taxpayer. It will make profits, because we'll move forward with the innovation and ability of American industry to address this issue.
Your theory is very interesting !
It's the corrupt "Two-Party Cartel". The elites have their pick as they have nominated theirs & the sheeple will vote 95% in this cartel. I'm with ya - This lib (R) doesn't deserve my vote & natually the socialist/communist nominee won't get zilch. If you think it's bad this time around just watch in 20012.
Juan’s reply concerning fundraising isn’t so good. I think he is counting on all of his liberal friends to send him cash.
So I think it’s not so good.
I think it's called StockHolm Syndrome.
Let’s hope you’re right. If there’s any ‘there’ there with McCain’s pander to the enviro-wackos, we’re in a heap o’ trouble.
Unless he’s going to chide China, India and Russia on this “tour”, what’s the point?
I think not Al Gore, but maybe Ms. Clinton.
He did say she would make a good POTUS.
(ouch)
Ah, you're in the Obama camp! :)
The McCain 2008 campaign is just one long, slow, sad senior moment, isn't it...? ;)
I finally figured it out. McCain is bucking for the VP slot on Obamas ticket!
McCain is just too dumb for primetime....he has some sort of self distruction mentally that makes no sense...wish this fool would go ahead and self destruct!
This is McCain’s problem, he knows best.
elite a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern [1].
Looking at his history, you see a mediocre performer at everything except the Vietnam Guilt Trip.
Recommended reading. When he first ran for office in AZ with Sugar Daddy-in-law's backing, he was accused of being a carpetbagger (like Hillary). He came back with a stinging rebuttal involving his POW years--very effective. It became his trademark. Any time he is confronted, out comes the POW guilt trip, and it has become tiresome.
For his service, I owe him honor, respect and gratitide. Everyone owes him that.
And that's it. He is not owed the presidency.
