This isn’t rational analysis, it’s sheer anti-Southern bigotry used for decades to gratify the snobbery and elitism of Northerners, with their clichés about big-bellied Southern sheriffs, psychopathic Klansmen, inbred families, and moonshine-brewing yokels.

Preaching to the choir, as it were.

Oh, please! This young woman, Kristy Lee Cook, sang “God Bless the USA” previously and stayed in the competition. She has a great chance of a career in country music. The showcase of American Idol even benefits the *losers*.

We began watching the show this season because we couldn’t stand watching the FNC news commentary shows on at the sme time. We do not vote. Young people, who are the market for new pop singers, do vote. People are sent home because they had the lowest number of votes, not no votes or negative votes. This show is a brilliant way for the music industry to find and market new singers while making a profit off the search process. That is all it is.

That said, I am a born and bred Northerner who appreciates the so-called Southern culture. I especially like the accent. Elitists do not. I have been told often, when I have said that I love the sound of a southern accent, that it sounds *uneducated*. I have no idea how these people manage to listen to Bubba or Snakehead, if they dislike the sound of southern speech.

The Southern population is growing as a percentage of US population.

Southerners reproduce themselves more often than Northeasterners or Midwesterners, more Americans move South than move North, and the South has received a large share of the new immigration to boot.

sensitive to complexity and nuance, and wary of simplistic explanations

All this means is that they are impervious to logical argument that conflicts with their emotion based conclusions.

Nice summary:

“Hirsh’s silly piece illustrates once again that liberals don’t dislike bigotry or intolerance on principle; they base their distaste instead on who the victim happens to be and whose political ox is being gored. They aren’t opposed to simplistic ideas lacking nuance; they always exempt their own from this stricture. They aren’t in favor of keeping an open mind and hearing all sides; they just claim those goods for their own opinions, and deny them to those of others. In other words, they’re flawed human like the rest of us––which is why we conservatives don’t want to give them all the state power they constantly lust for.”

To follow up, as I run the numbers, just over one-quarter of the US population lived in the states of the old Confederacy in 1970.

Right now, it is about a third.

"Liberal, Nuanced, Sensitive and Bigoted"

Liberals are all that plus mentally ill.

Back when the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was being unified I happened to be drinking with two liberals (one an avowed socialist actually). Both saw unification as the worst thing to happen since .... Genghis Kahn.

Almost on cue, both ranted that the first thing Germany would do was fire up the ovens again and kill all the Jews (I'm series'). And to stop this the UN and USA should declare war and destroy Germany and kill all Germans (feel the looooooove).

Did I say liberals were mentally ill? Yep, okay.

Oh yes...And we al,l know that Bi-coastal Big city warren, baby killing, death freak, flle the country plague rat votes, should count as five votes compared to any dumb yokel who isn’t smart enough, and “intellectual” enough, to be a drug abusing drunk, and little child sexualizing, dead ender sex freak, who wormed their way into a job in education or politics, government, or a union...or “entertainment”.
