Howard Dean: Florida and Michigan Delegations Will Be Seated
Patterico ^ | 05/03/2008 | Patterico

Howard Dean appeared on the Daily Show and said definitively that the Michigan and Florida delegations will be seated. (H/t Scott Jacobs.) The video is here.

Representative quotes:

STEWART: If I were designing a plan to submarine your chances, and again, you don’t have to follow my advice here, I would take the state that was, let’s say crucial to the Republican election chances — lets, let’s call it Florida — and I would find a way to insult them. Maybe not seat them at the convention, that sort of thing. Then I would pick a Rust Belt state, maybe a Michigan, and say to them the same. Now you’ve got two states that are angry with you. Do you think that would be a good way?

DEAN: Well, we’re actually going to seat them at the convention.

STEWART: What?! This is news! Are you really going to do that?

DEAN: We’re going to find a way to seat them at the convention.

START: Are you really going to?

DEAN: Yeah.

STEWART: How — how can you do that when their results don’t count?

DEAN: Well, it’s a little hard, but we’re gonna do it.

. . . .

It’s gonna be quite a juggling act, but we’re gonna do it. You cannot have a Democratic convention without Florida and Michigan.

Stewart also asked Dean why Michigan and Florida don’t have to follow the rules. Dean replied: “They do. That’s why they lost their delegates.”

I don’t get it either.

Finally, Dean argued that the Democrats’ system is “still more democratic than the [system used by the] Republicans” — you know, the system where the voters choose all the delegates. Stewart let him get away with that one.

Watch it all, if you can stand it.

“If you think after tens and tens of millions of dollars spent with the nomination just within his grasp that Obama is going to lay down for the Beast, I have a bridge to sell you.”

If you think the beast is going to lay down after spending tens of millions of dollars and her campaign is the most corrupt in US history, I have a bridge to sell you. :)

With all due respect I just can’t bring myself to vote FOR John McCain even if he the lesser of 2 evils....

Suit yourself. Just don't complain when you wake up in January of 09 with Hil-bama as President!

Haha...ya got me...i should have said ‘just a bit slow connecting the dots’ and that would have sufficed to show the one Joe Biden we all know...

What i had in mind was Biden’s performances on some of the debates when he sometimes appeared to be smarter or quick with a comeback, compared to some of the other dimRATS who fumbled some of the questions...But he also suffers from terminal foot in mouth disease which is why he would never make it as VP...

I’d find it difficult to believe that both Obama and Hillary have not/will not siphon millions of dollars off from the mega-millions they received in primary campaign contributions and general election campaign contributions

John Kerry kept over 12 million he never spent after his loss in 2004

Padded bills, fraud, bills listed but unpaid, kickbacks from PR firms, campaign managers

Hillary owes over 9 million in unpaid bills from just the primary campaigns

Restaurants, hotels, delis, car rentals, TV and radio ads, unpaid medical hospitalization insurance premium for their campaign staffers

If either quits now - they will not reap hidden wealth and immunity for debts

I believe McGovern still owes millions - but I could be wrong

If I’m wrong present your evidence

I think the subtext of Operation Chaos is that if a Dem wins, it’s far preferable that it be Hillary.

Yes, it is, which is why it's so stupid.

Obama = McGovern. Hillary can win.

Shoot, that’s no fun! I was hoping Screaming Mimi Dean would nix them being seated, so there’d be a nice little ole fight on the convention floor and the Dems would get all mad and their party split. Shoot, Deano just isn’t fun anymore!

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. Too much Big 10 Rivalry.

I'm a buckeye and I think it was a fine suggestion to incorporate Michigan. Ohio pretty much already owns Michigan anyway. It's sort of like Jim Tressel's personal recreation area.

It’s not fair to Obama, he wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan and he kept to his part of the bargin to not campaign in Florida. Hillary didn’t keep her word, so of course she won in Florida. I bet this was part of the Clinton Plan B all along. I just can’t stop thinking what an A-Hole Rush Limbaugh is. I swear, it makes people who took part in that Operation Chaos Scam seem racist. After all these years of KNOWING what the Clintons are about. People need to wake up. No wonder why black people are still having a tough time believing racism is dead. Thanks Rush, GREAT JOB YOU JERK!!!!!

Please spare us all this hot talk about sitting this one out because some of you don’t consider McCain an ideal candidate.

It’s our responsibility to vote for the best option. Period.

Please attempt to get real, folks.

“I believe Hillary has known about Wright for a long time. The timing of his exposure was a master stroke.”

I will take that a step further, according to Michael Savage, he said awhile back he thought Obama was a creation of the Clinton team to get Hillary elected, because by contrast, he made her look experienced and more mainstream, a white woman versus a black man. I will add to that, I think that Reverend Wright has been on the Clinton team all the while. Obama was only at that church for the poltical connections. Everyone is having a fit about Obama knowing one terrorist while at the same time IGNORING all of the terrorist connections to the Clintons, via Hillary defense of the Black Panthers and all of Bills pardons. Not to mention undisclosed contributions from suspect sources. This is just amazing to me. The whole thing is disgusting to me. Hillary will whoop McCains butt, she hand picked him as her opponent. He will never be elected. These people are too dirty, there is a reason why she is called Hitlery, she acts like Hitler’s daughter, she is no underdog (according to her speech last night at the Jefferson Jackson Dinner), She is a snake!

SkyShot,

I understand your point, and ther are many folks who will agree with you... HOWEVER, there is a growing number of folks who see this election very differently... it is NOT about being upset because we did not get our “IDEAL CANDIDATE”..... but rather it’s about how we ended up with the WORST possible candidate of the bunch.... In fact, how many times has John McCain sided with the FAR LEFT when he was under pressure and WE the Conservative wing of the party was practically begging him to stand with US, rather than with Feingold or Kennedy.. and time and time again he gives us the perverbial finger and jumps in bed with the FAR LEFT..... we ended up with McCain because the conservative majority was split on who our IDEAL candidate was.. and in doing so we ended up splitting 70 percent of the vote allowing McCain to capture the nomination without even getting close to a majority.... If we all RALLY behind McCain we will be sending the messaqe to the RNC that we WANT liberals and not REAL conservatives... Is this what you want? Sorry, not me, I would rather FIGHT an “enemy” face to face for the next four years than fight McCain just to get stabbed in the back for the next four years....

Guess I’m naive but it’s such a disgrace that that is allowed to happen. It probably always has and always will since the politicians are in charge.
