McCain says N.C. Republicans out of touch over ad

Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain accused North Carolina's Republican Party of being "out of touch with reality" over its refusal to pull an advertisement criticizing Democrat Barack Obama.

In an NBC interview aired on Friday, the Arizona senator said he has done all he can to persuade the state party to cancel the television ad that criticizes Obama as "too extreme" because of controversial remarks made by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"They're not listening to me because they're out of touch with reality and the Republican Party. We are the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan and this kind of campaigning is unacceptable," McCain told NBC's "Today" Show.

He’s still much better than the black militant or commie Clinton.

Sorry to say, that is exactly how I feel about it.

McCain went way too far.
It shows a certain political tone deafness.

I understand him wanting to distance himself from it, say he has no part in it, doesn’t condone it. That is perfectly acceptable.

But when he starts attacking North Carolina Republicans as “out of touch”, he has gone too far. He is just flirting with losing the state of North Carolina. Just who does he think is going to vote for him in NC if not Republicans? It is no different than Obama’s attack on rural voters’ belief in God and the 2nd amendment. It is no different at all, and yet McCain can’t see that.

I think he’s probably been told by advisors that went too far. And I think when Huckabee wins North Carolina in 2 weeks, despite having dropped out, McCain will get that message.

There’s a lot going on here: McCain trying to assert himself as the leader of the Republican party, McCain failing. The GOP has said “we’ll let you be our candidate, but you don’t speak for us.” It is McCain who is on probation, not the state Republican parties. They are raising money, he isn’t. Is it any wonder why?

McCain needs to apologize to North Carolina Republicans, say he misspoke. He should say he hadn’t seen the ad but was told by the media that it was racist. Then he should say after seeing the ad, he sees nothing wrong with it and the media lied about its contents, that it was tame in comparison to what Hillary Clinton’s campaign has been saying. Then he should say he won’t let any of these false charges and double standards against Republicans from the Democrats and news media stand.

Urban whites and non-white middle class will decide the election. That’s what McCain is saying. He’s willing to bet rural whites will come to the polls and vote him as a protest vote out of fear for what the dems will end up running, so the key is to convince the urban folks who want a tolerant secular moderate. They are trying to win. I guess you’ll have to deal with the insults. You’ll still vote against Obama or Hillary so he’s on safe ground.

At this point McCain is privy to the best political advice on the planet. He’s taking his cue from the best people in the business here on out.

I’m one of those urban whites, and I will be voting for McCain. But this insult to North Carolina Republicans does not make me more endeared to him. It makes me think that he is the one who is out of touch with reality. He is the one who doesn’t seem to get it. Many conservatives feel like he is not for them, that he is against them. He perhaps doesn’t understand just how fine the thread is that is holding him up. That is what makes him out of touch. He is going to need those Republicans to win North Carolina, and he is going to need to win North Carolina to win the election. There is already no great love for him by Republicans in North Carolina. Does he not understand this? He personally insulted all of them. Does he not get that? He is displaying a political tin ear. He could have said that ad doesn’t reflect the sort of campaign he is going to run, and he does not condone it, and leave it at that. He went too far in taking that extra step into insult territory, and it could cost him the election.

Are you really going to vote for someone who is 100% disabled in the eyes of the military and receives a tax free disability pension to boot??

Return e-mail to the GOP that sent me a fund raiser e-mail tonight:

“I will not support your liberal in sheep's clothing. I may not even vote for him, and my polling place is across the street from my house.

I expect McCain to apologize for us conservatives throughout the fall and tell us how great the Democrats are. He's already the worst candidate since Wendell Willkie, and that says a lot considering the stiffs like Dewey, Ford, Dole, and the Bush dynasty you guys have stuck us with in the past.”

Clinton's use it a lot.

Aye, that's the major problem with McCain....he continues to use Bill Clinton's tactics! He continues to appear to be a Democrat. He continues to alienate his Base. He may find that to be a losing proposition in the polling booth.

Maybe Republicans need to institute the super-delegate system so terrible mistakes (like McCain) can be corrected at the convention.

NO conservative would have a problem with this solution...NONE.

It is possible that no matter what 'message' is sent to John, he may no longer be capable of 'receiving'! As far as we have seen here, that message has been 'sent to' John many, many times. And yet he continuously attacked 'his Base'! North Carolina WILL be a 'preliminary' for John's November, but the chances of him noticing are nil.

Yeah. Obama wants to campaign in all 50 states, and McCain wants to alienate all 50 states.
You can’t say he isn’t a lovable maverick!

You do realize that Ruth Bader-Ginsberg was confirmed on a 96 to 3 vote, right?
She was confirmed on the basis of qualification, not political ideology, which is exactly what Republicans demand of their judicial nominees.

Not being one of the 3 who voted against her is not something a rational person can hold against Senator McCain.

>She was confirmed on the basis of qualification, not political ideology, which is exactly what Republicans demand of their judicial nominees.

Stupidest thread on the post. She is a member of the ACLU.

>Not being one of the 3 who voted against her is not something a rational person can hold against Senator McCain.

Anyone who comes to FR and states that the 6 reasons that we must unite behind this liberal are the judicial SCOTUS nominations HAS to be able to defend McCain on his record.

His record sucks.

“I am forced to vote for McCain, but he always seems to find a way to irritate me.”

No, you are NOT FORCED TO VOTE FOR McCAIN”! McAmnesty is a LIBERAL RINO. The country is heading in the wrong direction and you will be bitterly disappointed the next four years. Stop wasting your vote and vote Constitution/American Independent Party.

If you take a siesta from your angst you might see the wisdom of his thinking about the ad as:
“1. Charlotte and Raleigh television market already begin rejecting the ad—two stations nixed it this morning.
2. It has the benefit only of the “race card” in a Southern state where “sit ins” began back in the Civil Rights early 1960s.
3. It insulates McCain from the anti-Catholicism endorsement.”

Spare me with such tripe. McAmnessty’s motto, “Can’t we all just get along unless its a conservative”.

He might as well get over it now because those in the conservative movement who are committed to defeating that America-hating, leftist scumbag are going to continue to expose his hate for this country and proclivity toward socialism loudly and often.

A McCain election to the presidency will just be a side-effect of defeating either of the two socialists.

Juan...go to the corner and shut up.
