CARTER to KOCH: You have done me more damage than any man in America.
KOCH: I felt proud then, and even more today, since we now know what a miserable president he was then and the miserable human being he is now....

I always liked Mayor Koch even if he was a Democrat.

I always thought Ed would be a great guy to sit down and have a few beers with.
83 years old. Man, how time flies.

“I felt proud then, and even more today, since we now know what a miserable president he was then and the miserable human being he is now as he prepares to meet with Hamas.”

What’s Carter doing meeting with Hamas, anyway? Doesn’t he have an election to ratify in Zimbabwe?

"Now we come to the last president on this list, George W. Bush. I campaigned for his reelection and have no regrets. I believe that history will treat him more kindly than current public opinion polls indicate. He and Tony Blair recognized the danger of Islamic terrorism to the Western world when most world leaders did not. In addition, he is a very nice guy. "The Mayor gets it right.

“I was by then Mayor of New York City — and I said that I would vote for him, but not campaign for him because he was then engaging in hostile acts towards Israel.”
He has the guts to say the truth about former President Carter, but not to not vote for him.
He’s a partisian, party over principle.

That’s one way of looking at it. However as I’ve often noted, Israel isn’t the primary issue most Jews vote on. My guess in 1976 it was one of the few Koch disagreed with, so he voiced his criticism, declined an active role, and went with the candidate in step with most of his political positions. Just as he mentions his respect for Ronald Reagan, yet didn’t vote for him.
