Obama's remarks slammed by rivals [Obama smears gun-owners, church-goers as bigots]

Sens. John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday criticized Sen. Barack Obama as a condescending, out-of-touch elitist over remarks made Sunday and again last night in which the Illinois senator said small-town Americans are "bitter" and cling to guns and religion as symptoms of frustration.

"Pennsylvania doesn't need a president who looks down on them," Mrs. Clinton said at a Philadelphia rally yesterday. "They need a president who stands up for them, who fights for them, who works hard for your futures, your jobs, your families."

McCain spokesman Steve Schmidt said that Mr. Obama's initial remarks, made at a fundraiser in San Francisco, "shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking."

In the remarks earlier this week, which surfaced yesterday on the Huffington Post Web site, Mr. Obama told the closed-door fundraiser that "you go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them."

Mr. Obama told the San Francisco crowd that these economic struggles would unsurprisingly make small-town residents become bitter or back conservative social issues.

“Only an elitist who attributes religious faith and gun ownership to bitterness would think that tax cuts for the rich include families who make $75,000 per year. Only an elitist would say that people vote their values only out of frustration. Barack Obama thinks he knows your hopes and fears better than you do,” Mr. Bounds said.”

I’m a bitter, typical white person according to Barak Hussein Obama who wants me to vote on his intangible message of ‘hope and change’.

This even beats the elitism of John Kerry if such a thing is possible.

The more he opens his mouth, the more people see that he is not fit to be president.

From your post:

Imagine McCain saying:

You go into these urban neighborhood in New York and, like a lot of areas in major cities, the welfare has been drying up now for 15 years and no new government program has replaced it… Each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna stop relying on government handouts and regenerate and they have not......... And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to gangs or victimhood or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-white sentiment or conspiracy theories as a way to explain their frustrations.

Bravo!!!!!!!!

If McCain, Bush, Romney, or Huckabee made comments like that, like Al Campanis and Jimmy the Greek, they would have been run out of town on a rail.

As with Rev. Wright, Obama gets an affirmative action pass on this. He should be gone. Finished from national politics. This was his Howard Dean scream moment.

don't vote on economic issues because they don't expect anybody is going to help them

Hey BO, they don't vote on economic issues 'cuz they know your "help" (i.e., giving everybody huge Bag O' Cash) helps their wallets in the same way People's Temple Kool-Aid satisfies thirst.

If he wins

He is not going to win. American is not ready for a black racist Muslim as president.

One cannot sit in church for 20 years listening to hate sermons without being influenced by it.

"It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.

Huge mistake by Obama. This may cost him Pennsylvania.

How does Obama explain Americans who believe in God and support the constitutional right to bear arms, who are not unhappy, bitter, or frustrated with their lives? How does he explain those who think the U.S. borders should be secure to protect the country from terrorists?

Easy. Obama doesn't want Whitey Christians to have firearms.

They might shoot these guys.

If he wasn't such an elitist he would have just said it this way, “them small town hicks are just POed and that's why they have their evil guns and that fake religion”.

He just threw Pennsylvania under the bus. Rev. Wright's comments put New York and Florida easily in range for McCain. How does he plan to win a red state in a national election spouting this kind of stuff?

Making impolitic remarks or gaffes like this denigrating any group of Americans certainly raises questions about judgment and character. Not to mention his diplomatic skills. There is a bit too much of this "typical white person" and "you people" song and dance. He's too alienated to be president.

Racist can be defined as someone winning an argument with a liberal.

Fascist defined is a non-liberal.

Rich is someone, who makes over $75,000 a year and is not an elected Democrat (see Kennedy, Rockafeller, Kerry, etc.)

Racist KKK is someone, who believes in tax cuts and wears a tie (which lets Robert Byrd off the hook).

Progressive is a believer in bigger government, all the time, no matter how big government already is.

By slamming church-goers as bigots, is he saying that he is a bigot for attending Trinity UCC or is he saying that he does not believe in going to church except for the benefits it brings with the electorate?

He says that they turn to religion out of bitterness and frustration. He turned to religion to secure a power base in south Chicago for his Saul Alinsky style socialist agenda. If you read and listen to Obama carefully he adheres to a "double truth" theory and a pragmatist approach to religion. It's not really Christianity at all.

The Obamessiah is just reveling his intimate understanding of "typical white people". Glad I just moved to PA so I could register DimmRat to vote for the wicked witch instead of this racist menace.

The shiite always floats to the top. Unfortunately in the case of the clinocchios it didn’t happen until after he was in the White House. That won’t happen with Barack McGovern. His shiite is in free float already.

Or maybe, they would rather turn to things that have greater worth than Washington or government solutions to their problems and they don't need you!
