Internal polling data, presented privately last week at the Republican National Committees state chair meeting and provided to Politico, shows John McCain with a solid lead over both his potential general election rivals. Powered by the same appeal to Democrats and independents that fueled his primary election success, McCain is leading Barack Obama 48 percent to 42 percent and Hillary Clinton 51 percent to 40 percent according to RNC polling done late last month.

Better throw Amnesty for Illegals in with Climate Change and McCain-Feingold.
It would help if the article bothered to mention an MoE. If it’s the usual + or - 3, then Obama and McCain are within the margin of error. McCain is beating Hillary pretty decisively, though.
Dean is right. Still, it's better to be ahead than to be behind. The GOP needs money and these polls help loosen the pocketbooks of the access-buyers.
This is an important consideration. In a period of high anxiety, as we may be heading into with the war on and the economy deteriorating, people tend to become more security-oriented and less interested in taking risks.
McCain, if he's smart, will make every effort to get people to feel comfortable with him. In this his reasonable softspoken style can be a real asset. Beats hell out of a screeching histrionic woman or a smart-ass self-centered Harvard lawyer.
Some foam-flecked freepers will of course be beyond the pale, but much of the normal population will be glad to feel like they have a seasoned veteran at the helm intsead of a flaky radical newcomer or a reality-challenged menopausal maniac.
That is exactly what he is doing. He's defining himself to the American people. He's not a sh!t flinger like some want him to be but he is the solid, reasonable alternative to the drooling, irresponsible left.
BTTT!
He will get creamed by either Clinton or Obama unless they extend their fight through the Democratic convention.
**As Tom Delay said we must push him as far right as we can.**
I see this happening too, and I believe it will continue. We might even be surprised.
One example, McCain is the only pro-life candidate against abortion. There has been some displeasure because he has supported to some extenent embryonic stem cell research.
I believe we will see him step back from that issue and start talking about Human Stem-Cell Research RESULTS!
Good idea, it's the only one we got.
Looking hard at Nader.
Just kidding...sure, I'll vote for McCain.
It's starting to look that way already. They sure didn't get any traction in the last Pretraeous hearings.
No conspiracy; just high-energy politics.
My husband was at a meeting earlier in the week. Some of his friends, whom we in the South would describe as “yellow dog Democrats” (they would vote for a yellow dog if it was running as a Democrat) told him that they are very disappointed with the choices on the Democratic side. They are leaning toward voting for McCain.
GREAT PICTURE, THANKS!
Uh, I doubt it. Just a ploy to encourage protest votes.

We're in a really unpopular war and the economy is getting worse. And he's indifferent to both....oh, and 'Eeeeeeeeyaaaaaaaahhhhh!'
I’ll even take two out of three for now.
