It would help if the article bothered to mention an MoE. If it’s the usual + or - 3, then Obama and McCain are within the margin of error. McCain is beating Hillary pretty decisively, though.

Now THIS must be a lie!!!!!!!! How could McCain be ahead of Barack McGovern? Nobody I've seen on TV believes the twenty percent of Democrats who say they will vote for Mccain over Barack McGovern believes them so why should we?
Nobody but Rush ever talks about the “bradley factor” so HOW can it possibly exist? America WANTS to elect a Black socialist with a Muslim name who hasn't a clue about how America works and why it is the great nation it is. How foolish of me not to know these things!

Ive always thought national numbers are complete nonsense until after September.Dean is right. Still, it's better to be ahead than to be behind. The GOP needs money and these polls help loosen the pocketbooks of the access-buyers.

If we win it will only be because the other side is just too far left or otherwise suspect This is an important consideration. In a period of high anxiety, as we may be heading into with the war on and the economy deteriorating, people tend to become more security-oriented and less interested in taking risks.
McCain, if he's smart, will make every effort to get people to feel comfortable with him. In this his reasonable softspoken style can be a real asset. Beats hell out of a screeching histrionic woman or a smart-ass self-centered Harvard lawyer.
Some foam-flecked freepers will of course be beyond the pale, but much of the normal population will be glad to feel like they have a seasoned veteran at the helm intsead of a flaky radical newcomer or a reality-challenged menopausal maniac.

McCain, if he's smart, will make every effort to get people to feel comfortable with him. That is exactly what he is doing. He's defining himself to the American people. He's not a sh!t flinger like some want him to be but he is the solid, reasonable alternative to the drooling, irresponsible left.

He will get creamed by either Clinton or Obama unless they extend their fight through the Democratic convention.

**As Tom Delay said we must push him as far right as we can.**
I see this happening too, and I believe it will continue. We might even be surprised.
One example, McCain is the only pro-life candidate against abortion. There has been some displeasure because he has supported to some extenent embryonic stem cell research.
I believe we will see him step back from that issue and start talking about Human Stem-Cell Research RESULTS!

My husband was at a meeting earlier in the week. Some of his friends, whom we in the South would describe as “yellow dog Democrats” (they would vote for a yellow dog if it was running as a Democrat) told him that they are very disappointed with the choices on the Democratic side. They are leaning toward voting for McCain.

We're in a really unpopular war and the economy is getting worse. And he's indifferent to both.
