how much brain power does it take to staple some carpeting to a chair frame?
certainly not more than 10 bucks an hour which is prolly lots more than it takes to employ the people Lazy-Boy pays to do it here
they want the unions, free healthcare, benefits and a big pension to retire on let alone a wage that puts them in the middle class bracket as a single parent
How about wage insurance? Or, wage insurance for those 50 or older?
Problem is Whirlpool makes most big appliances these days.
In other words, America gets zero value from a factory that moves to Mexico, but gets less than zero value, when that plant stays here, and hires illegal aliens.
Hm, aren’t those union states?
Business failed? Look for the union label!
Or how about a better quality product? And yes, I am willing to pay more for it.
I am tired of this gadget and that widget breaking after a couple of years. Unlike even ten years ago.
We end up burning through resources much faster.
And guess where all of my broken junk ends up? Actually, I really don’t know. They haul it away when they deliver the next new piece of junk that I just bought.
The sewing on some of their leather chairs is terrible.
Or how about a better quality product? And yes, I am willing to pay more for it.
Most people can’t afford to pay more. There’s plenty of furniture made in the U.S., but the majority of folks can’t afford it.
What are they doing to our country jobs are exported while illegals are imported how does this make sense. I was going to go and shop at the Lazyboy store this weekend for a new love seat I will forget the idea and keep what I have
“How about wage insurance? Or, wage insurance for those 50 or older?”
Wage insurance? Sounds like some union BS.
Good. It will make their firm stronger and more competitive.
It will make the chairs cheaper and they will sell more.
Hopefully, they will stay in business and grow and add different employees.

The article is about the companies moving their business and jobs to Mexico...
The different employees are all Mexican...
The American workers were all laid off...
In Cleveland, TN, illegal aliens are swarming in to take the jobs that ;aod off American workers could have had..
The price of the furniture and appliances wont go down but the quality of the workmanship will..
What is so delightful about all that ????
I can see that capitalism is not your strong suit.
Look, any company whose executives treat their employees poorly deserve what they get. I have no excuses for them.
However, it’s the company’s executives that better keep their company competitive, else they all end up looking like Detroit auto companies.
Hey there, there was a candidate who wanted a level
playing field when it came to our manufacturing and trade
but he was called a protectionist which was not the case.
Just wanted to keep some jobs in America.
Duncan Hunter was blown off as some did not want an adult conservative.
So, what can I say.
“The price of the furniture and appliances wont go down but the quality of the workmanship will..”
Well there is an executive decision. Evidently, the leaders of this company considered whether the quality would go down versus the cost and decided that, in fact, it would not.
I’d be interested in how you know that it would go down, yet the folks that run the company did not.
I know, its just a shame that they have to take away jobs from the people who buy their products.
Because, in the end, it ends up costing more if you have to buy two of the same appliance over 10 years versus one. Not including service calls.
We bought some of the “furniture” that you mentioned. We waited eight weeks and paid approximately 50% more for it. It was painful.
We have had it for 16 years and love it and plan to keep it for the rest of our lives.
The furniture is solid (oak) as ever and beautiful to boot.
And guess what? — we went back to the same manufacturer and bought a bedroom set and kitchen table. All have served us well.
We did the a similar thing with our living room couch and love seat. Have had them for around 18 years and they are still in great shape. Ironically, the couch and love seat have lasted longer than the company that manufactured them.
“Kurt L. Darrow, La-Z-Boys president and chief executive officer”
Wonder what relationship he might have with a certain Clarence Darrow of the we-are-latter-days-monkey infamy. Both are agnostic, just in different ways.
“I know, its just a shame that they have to take away jobs from the people who buy their products.”
Why do we do it? I don’t buy any of this outsourced, imported stuff. I’ll buy used first. We make it possible for them to do this to us.
Does the concept of national sovereignty mean much to you?
