Obama, who has struggled to overcome Clinton's significant advantage among Latino voters in state after state, sought to one-up his rival for the Democratic presidential nod by joining the call for creating a national holiday to commemorate the father of the United Farm Workers.
"That's why I support the call to make Cesar Chavez's birthday a national holiday. It's time to recognize the contributions of this American icon to the ongoing efforts to perfect our union."
Eight states commemorate Chavez' birthday in some fashion. In California, all state offices are closed, but local government facilities and public schools are open.
The other states that officially honor Chavez are Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin.

You are absolutely correct. Chavez hated illegals because they were cutting in on his action. I don’t think Hussein has a clue.

When do we get a national Louie Farrakhan celebration? A Jeremiah Wright celebration?
Looterguy Day?

He just bent over...er...ah...backwards at a ...ahh...”gay” fundraiser so this should surprise no one. He’s scheduled to appear at a convention of Jewish, Native American, one-legged lesbian dwarfs that enjoy watching nude volleyball in Bismarck, ND tomorrow.

We all sit here and and complain and then do nothing to try and make things better. When was the last time you contacted your Congress Critter? I have written one of mine twice this past year but have made my mind up to maybe give his office some calls. If they started getting a lot of calls, letters and faxes per day they might just wake up to the fact that most of the folks are just tired of their job performance.

The other states that officially honor Chavez are Arizona,... This is news to me. Maybe the artsy fartsy Rodents get together at the state capitol, sing Kumbayah and read a "proclamation" or some goofy stuff like that.

He should ask for a Ronald Reagan holiday. He gave the first pass for illegals and did more for that cause then Chavez ever did.

Lets see, we already got rid of Abraham Lincolns day, lets get rid of George Washingtons birthday or possibly the 4th of July or Memorial Day."
I would suggest we get rid of the 4th of July next - not literally of course - we'd be short one day in the month of July.
Here in Sacramento Kalifornia, if you choose to celebrate your 'freedom' by lighting a firecracker, you will serve a mandatory jail sentence and pay a large fine.
Seems pretty stupid to be celebrating independence and freedom since we have neither any longer, so why the need for the holiday other than an excuse for retailers to have 'big-blam-boom-sales'?

Cesar Chavez?
Hell man, do it right and have a holiday for Gus Hall too!
