6th Grade Class Denounces Global Warming Skeptics as 'Horrible People'

Excerpt: If you doubt teachers across the country are trying to brainwash schoolchildren with global warming alarmism, take a look inside the sixth grade classroom of teacher Michael Steria at David A. Brown Middle School in Wildomar, California. Twenty-five sixth graders teamed up to write eight letters to The Heartland Institute describing what they had been taught about global warming. [..] Global warming "means that if we don´t fix the climate, everything will be destroyed and we won´t be able to survive," two students wrote. Others found their global warming lessons similarly frightening (all transcriptions are as the students wrote and sent them, uncorrected): "I think your fools for denying G.W. you know it could kill us all & you´re just adding to it. I want you to help stop G.W. not increase it." "We are going to tell you about global warming. I don´t care if you don´t want to read, but I´m making you read it you horrible people." "We feel that it is wrong what you are doing. We know that you know that global warming is NOT we repeat NOT a myth, And we think it is selfish that you would take money over yours and your peers lives." […] The students say they read 10 articles about global warming; their letters describe and identify seven of them. Three of the articles have nothing to do with global warming or greenhouse gases. Two are dire predictions from non-scientists at the United Nations disaster relief agency, the U.N. Development Programme, and nongovernmental organizations engaged in disaster aid. One article relates state efforts at monitoring greenhouse gases.

Letters from Sixth Grade Students Reveal Global Warming Indoctrination March 25, 2008 By: Maureen Martin

If you doubt teachers across the country are trying to brainwash schoolchildren with global warming alarmism, take a look inside the sixth grade classroom of teacher Michael Steria at David A. Brown Middle School in Wildomar, California.

Twenty-five sixth graders teamed up to write eight letters to The Heartland Institute describing what they had been taught about global warming. Steria sent the letters to the institute in March.

(The letters themselves are posted here.) [GO TO HEARTLAND.ORG AND CLICK ON TO THIS ARTICLE TO READ THIS LINK] http://heartland.temp.siteexecutive.com/pdf/22921.pdf

The students said they learned about global warming by reading 10 articles about it. None of the articles, however, was about the science of global warming. Many described terrifying consequences that supposedly will result, convincing the students all living things--including all human beings--will be dead in 10 years.

Steria´s Teachings

Global warming "means that if we don´t fix the climate, everything will be destroyed and we won´t be able to survive," two students wrote. Others found their global warming lessons similarly frightening (all transcriptions are as the students wrote and sent them, uncorrected):

"I think your fools for denying G.W. you know it could kill us all & you´re just adding to it. I want you to help stop G.W. not increase it."

"We are going to tell you about global warming. I don´t care if you don´t want to read, but I´m making you read it you horrible people."

"We feel that it is wrong what you are doing. We know that you know that global warming is NOT we repeat NOT a myth, And we think it is selfish that you would take money over yours and your peers lives."

"We feel upset because you are making Global Warming worse instead of helping it. We know that almost half of the country knows that G.W. is a crisis. We know that you could help the environment with the $800,000 you have."

"We feel that they are destroying our planet by saying G.W. is not a crisis. You think GW is not a crisis but it is; you know deep down that it´s a real thing that´s happening. Everyone has a part in helping GW, and you´re making worse."

"I do not think that what you are doing is right because you are telling people that global warming is not a crisis. If this is not a crisis, how come floods have occurred in asia, Mexico, and India. Plus, how can you explain why the glacier glaciers are melting. they can´t melt themselves, because they are in the coldest region in the world."

"Air pollution shrinks fetus size, 31 states target global warming, World must fix Climate in 10 years-UNDP, National disasters have quadrupled in two decades, and Global Warming Denier Group funded by Big Oil Hosting Climate Change Denial conference."

Off-Topic Articles

The students say they read 10 articles about global warming; their letters describe and identify seven of them.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. If you want on/off this list, please freepmail me. The main Homeschool Ping List by DaveLoneRanger handles the homeschool-specific articles. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list.

Maybe someone should let these kids read The Doomslayer.

Those of us old enough to remember Silent Spring (1962), The Population Bomb (1968), or the coming ice age predicted in 1976 will enjoy this article. Perhaps the kiddos could learn that everything the “experts” tell them might not be true and perhaps they should wait for a verdict before they incarcerate.

One troubling thing I have about all this is that I often find myself agreeing with the GW-mongers. I choose to live a conservative lifestyle and much of their advice falls into this lifestyle ... reuse old stuff rather than buying new. Reduce energy consumption rather than wasting.

Of course, I do so because I'm a cheap skate. And I don't want legislation forcing everyone else to do so.

Having zero education is better than having a NEGATIVE education.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There really is a point where having no education at all is better than toxic, godless, liberal/Marxist indoctrination!

In many government schools that point was reached long ago.

It took a long time but I finally got my husband convinced to home school. I followed many FReeper’s advice & showed him thread after thread. The final straw for him was when the school nurse did not call home to tell us our 8 yr old daughter was hit in the mouth with a hockey stick. I just happened to find out when I called to see if she had been given her inhaler treatment & my daughter was in her office. We are trying to let her finish the year. That nurse is just useless. We are now getting books etc together & talking to local home school families. I never thought it would happen but thankfully it has.

Some parents attempt to “afterschool” and deprogram their kids in an attempt to make up for government school deficiencies and toxicity.

Deprogramming and afterschooling is really a **LOT** more work that just homeschooling from the beginning.

Oh, please. Private schools teach this garbage, too.

Possibly, as do some liberal homeschoolers. The key difference is: We're not forced to fund private schools and homeschooling.

"I’ve seen some of the posts of those who are below average, here on Free Republic."

Trust me, I have seen my share as well, and I am willing to bet a buffalo nickel that the majority of them are NOT education majors...

There are morons in every career field. The teaching profession simply seems to bear the bulk of the scrutiny here on FR because probably 75% or more of FR's denizens believe that ALL teachers are liberal, lazy, and ignorant. It gets tiring listening to the same old record play over and over again...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you are tired, take a rest. This is still a free country and no one here one Free Republic is holding a gun to your head.

I can think of dozens of professions that are so academically rigorous that being stupid, or lazy would preclude finishing the program. Also, being stupid or lazy would immediately eliminate these people from the job market. In a FREE market the lazy, stupid, incompetent, and ignorant are fired! That's what a free market does.

Government schools are government created price-fixed monopolies under the thumb of one of the world's most powerful unions. (That is a prescription for maintaining permanent life support for the terminally brain dead!) Firing a government teacher, nearly requires and Act of Congress, and their rate of dismissal proves this. In New York City they even have a term for the places where they warehouse the incompetents: “Rubber Rooms”!

Ignorance, laziness, and stupidity are far less likely to be maintained in the free market professions, and far more likely to be found in the union protected, price-fixed, monopoly government schools.

Finally, only teachers are responsible for their collective SAT, ACT, and GRE averages. If you find a bright teacher ( and I have), some kid somewhere is stuck with a dumb one. That's what “average” means!

" Ignorance, laziness, and stupidity are far less likely to be maintained in the free market professions, and far more likely to be found in the union protected, price-fixed, monopoly government schools."

Not all teachers choose to join the NEA. Not all teachers feel that this institution deserves their hard-earned money. I am one of them. I will not join the union for I know what it represents. I demand to be judged and evaluated based on my merit, not coddled by an inferior system. Since I have not had difficulty maintaining my job, my merit must be speaking for itself...

I DO sympathize with you in regards to the dregs of my profession, but please steer clear of lumping all educators into one convenient category.

“Twenty-five sixth graders teamed up to write eight letters..”

These children are thinking the exact same way that the liberals are thinking. Of course, the liberals are just bigger children than these 6th graders.

That said, these kids should have been shoveling my driveway all winter long. That would cure them of their belief in the GW religeon.

I’m exactly the same way and I challenge all of the GW fear mongers that I know to reduce their “carbon footprint” to my level. They all tell me that it is to hard.....I then tell them to STFU about GW.

Yeah, why start from a negative instead of a zero?

And the couple of hours you spend deprogramming could have one more hour added to it and you’re homeschooling.

This is an excellent point. If the government even let you keep your own school tax money if you were homeschooling, the next step would be to justify more government intrusion into the home. It would be similar to what Hillsdale College experienced before they stopped accepting all government student aid. I’ll feel better now about paying my giant property tax bill for our local crime-ridden mush-head schools that I will never send my kids too. I will imagine it’s like paying the mafia to keep them away from my kids!

One of the things that may come out of a serious financial downturn is that tax dollars will not be available to fund public education.
