6th Grade Class Denounces Global Warming Skeptics as 'Horrible People'

Excerpt: If you doubt teachers across the country are trying to brainwash schoolchildren with global warming alarmism, take a look inside the sixth grade classroom of teacher Michael Steria at David A. Brown Middle School in Wildomar, California. Twenty-five sixth graders teamed up to write eight letters to The Heartland Institute describing what they had been taught about global warming. [..] Global warming "means that if we don´t fix the climate, everything will be destroyed and we won´t be able to survive," two students wrote. Others found their global warming lessons similarly frightening (all transcriptions are as the students wrote and sent them, uncorrected): "I think your fools for denying G.W. you know it could kill us all & you´re just adding to it. I want you to help stop G.W. not increase it." "We are going to tell you about global warming. I don´t care if you don´t want to read, but I´m making you read it you horrible people." "We feel that it is wrong what you are doing. We know that you know that global warming is NOT we repeat NOT a myth, And we think it is selfish that you would take money over yours and your peers lives." […] The students say they read 10 articles about global warming; their letters describe and identify seven of them. Three of the articles have nothing to do with global warming or greenhouse gases. Two are dire predictions from non-scientists at the United Nations disaster relief agency, the U.N. Development Programme, and nongovernmental organizations engaged in disaster aid. One article relates state efforts at monitoring greenhouse gases.

Letters from Sixth Grade Students Reveal Global Warming Indoctrination March 25, 2008 By: Maureen Martin

If you doubt teachers across the country are trying to brainwash schoolchildren with global warming alarmism, take a look inside the sixth grade classroom of teacher Michael Steria at David A. Brown Middle School in Wildomar, California.

Twenty-five sixth graders teamed up to write eight letters to The Heartland Institute describing what they had been taught about global warming. Steria sent the letters to the institute in March.

(The letters themselves are posted here.) [GO TO HEARTLAND.ORG AND CLICK ON TO THIS ARTICLE TO READ THIS LINK] http://heartland.temp.siteexecutive.com/pdf/22921.pdf

The students said they learned about global warming by reading 10 articles about it. None of the articles, however, was about the science of global warming. Many described terrifying consequences that supposedly will result, convincing the students all living things--including all human beings--will be dead in 10 years.

Steria´s Teachings

Global warming "means that if we don´t fix the climate, everything will be destroyed and we won´t be able to survive," two students wrote. Others found their global warming lessons similarly frightening (all transcriptions are as the students wrote and sent them, uncorrected):

"I think your fools for denying G.W. you know it could kill us all & you´re just adding to it. I want you to help stop G.W. not increase it."

"We are going to tell you about global warming. I don´t care if you don´t want to read, but I´m making you read it you horrible people."

"We feel that it is wrong what you are doing. We know that you know that global warming is NOT we repeat NOT a myth, And we think it is selfish that you would take money over yours and your peers lives."

"We feel upset because you are making Global Warming worse instead of helping it. We know that almost half of the country knows that G.W. is a crisis. We know that you could help the environment with the $800,000 you have."

"We feel that they are destroying our planet by saying G.W. is not a crisis. You think GW is not a crisis but it is; you know deep down that it´s a real thing that´s happening. Everyone has a part in helping GW, and you´re making worse."

"I do not think that what you are doing is right because you are telling people that global warming is not a crisis. If this is not a crisis, how come floods have occurred in asia, Mexico, and India. Plus, how can you explain why the glacier glaciers are melting. they can´t melt themselves, because they are in the coldest region in the world."

"Air pollution shrinks fetus size, 31 states target global warming, World must fix Climate in 10 years-UNDP, National disasters have quadrupled in two decades, and Global Warming Denier Group funded by Big Oil Hosting Climate Change Denial conference."

Off-Topic Articles

The students say they read 10 articles about global warming; their letters describe and identify seven of them.

My kids bring home their Weekly Readers and we discuss them at home. Very educational - along with what I can dig up from the internet. The one that hit home with them was the percentage of CO2 that we add to the atmosphere. It is something like .25% of the CO2 that goes into the atmosphere is manmade. I took 100 pennies, and took wite-out and made 1/4 of one of the pennies white. Dumped them onto the table and told them what was going on. And asked the question “how much do you think that white dot (in this mass of affects things”?

Then went into a disussion about how the CO2 levels LAG the temperature changes (cause and effect relationships).

Having kids talking about serious issues appeals to the mindset that makes up dhimmirat voters.

Every issue is judged on the level of “nice” or “mean” - no more analysis is allowed or required.

10 Articles on Global Warming? I am willing to bet they get 30 seconds on the 2nd Amendment, just long enough to explain the origins of the National Guard.

But what about the plan of a tuition tax credit up to $X for the educational expenses at the institution of your choice (even home schooling expenses)?

I use to think that would be ok. but I have come to the conclusion that it would be best to get govt out of education completely. If parents doesn't want to educate their kids that's fine, but I honestly think that no education is better than what is being taught in the public schools.

To the people who say “I CAN’T homeschool” -

then just pull them out an let them play video games all day.

Having zero education is better than having a NEGATIVE education.

It’s a clever strategy, I have to give the libs that much. Rule homeschooling illegal without passing any new legislation (where possible) and then indoctrinate all the would-be rush babies by controlling parental involvement in the child’s education and upbringing. They’ve nearly succeeded in making certain parenting strategies completely illegal. Their only mistake was in openly using the kids for political activism at such a young age where they can’t pin the blame for the letters on “student initiated involvement.”

Fortunately for the libs, they can leave their agenda exposed without fear of the tide shifting. Too many parents are already convinced there’s no viable alternative, or they would have been pulling their kids out in much greater numbers after all the teacher sex scandal bombshells started going off.

I think that it's wonderful that you take a negative, and turn it into a teaching opportunity. If only more parents thought this way... FWIW, my Mom and Dad did much the same thing with the Weekly Readers that I brought home. :-)

The heck of it is, that there *are* a few good ideas amidst all of the crap. It *is* a good idea to conserve energy and water. It *is* (generally) a good idea to recycle. CFLs are excellent, for specific applications. Littering and pollution, in general, are bad.

The problem is with the terms in which these (good) ideas are couched. "If you don't recycle, we'll all be buried in garbage". "If you eat meat, you're eating baby chickens." "If your Mom and Dad drive a car, the earth will burn up from Global Warming." 6, 7, and 8 year olds (not all, but many) can't think critically enough to filter out the hyperbole.

I'm sure that the writers of this garbage know this very, very well. And use it. :-(

The choices are not just homeschool and publicly funded brain washing, there are private schools, tutors, and privately funded community schools.

But if a parent want to let their kid play video games all day, well, God gave that child to the parents, not me, not you, and certainly not the govt.

In California, they’ve passed legislation

ruling “mom” and “dad”, “husband” and “wife” as “exclusionary language” (ie, hate speech)

also, they passed laws protecting teachers if those teachers want to “inculcate a preference for communism” in their students.

Couple this with the judicial fiat outlawing homeschooling, and you see where the left wants to go.

It’s downright frightening to me to see where we’re headed. All three of the possible presidential canidates buys into this garbage and I’m just now starting a family. By the time my child is old enough, I may not have a legal option to teach my kid that avoids this propaganda. Fortunately private schooling is still legal everywhere (to my knowledge), but how hard would it really be to pass legislation that mandates these things into the curriculum of every school? I foolishly thought that getting rid of homeschool would be the hard part of their strategy.

"Most education majors that I’ve met don’t know how to properly use the language, solve an algebra problem, or how to explain the relationship of the sun, moon, earth and planets."

Then you have met some ridiculously lazy and incompetent fools. Allowing this fact to guide your belief as to ALL education majors is ill-advised.

The left has messed up with regard to getting rid of homeschooling.

They should have stopped it way before we got organized and formed the HSLDA and before the ACLJ came to prominance.

I wasn’t a homeschool fan until I started realizing just how far the public system had declined. My wife convinced me. She quit her job (cutting our income in half) two months before our first child was born. We’re going to homeschool, and also protect their hearts and minds from modern “liberal” indoctrination through a firm foundation of reason and morality.

Education majors have the lowest SAT and GRE scores on campus.

So...If there are education majors who are above average then I truly feel sorry for those whose teachers fall BELOW the average. I’ve seen some of the posts of those who are below average, here on Free Republic.
