Throw grandma under the bus ( Barack Obama )
powerline ^ | March 18, 2008 | Scott

Posted on 03/18/2008 10:24:50 PM PDT by george76

When seeking to extricate himself from the tight spot in which he has been placed by his long association with the spiritual leadership of Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama hauled in his (living) maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham. Obama has previously characterized Mrs. Dunham as a "trailblazer of sorts, the first woman vice-president of a local bank." She had a direct hand in his upbringing when Obama chose to live with his maternal grandparents rather than his mother, who was then in Indonesia.

Today Obama brought Mrs. Dunham into his speech for a cameo appearance as a white counterpart to the fulsome Reverend Wright:

" I can no more disown [Jeremiah Wright] than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe. "

Even amid the false equivalencies and obvious evasions of his speech today, Obama's misuse of his grandmother seems to me a striking sign of poor character.

Too bad Obama's mother didn't give her son her maiden name as his middle name. It's a common thing to do. Then we would have Barack Dunham Obama running against Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Thanks Meek.

I agree it was a bad comparison, and it will cost him votes.

His white Grandmother's stereotypical fear of Blacks made Obama cringe, while he could no more denounce his racist spiritual leader than he could denounce the black culture, which his little 1/8 heritage he hopes will get his racist little self elected President.

I notice that in both of the pictures of the grandparents on this thread, they are hugging or otherwise embracing Obama, he is posing for the camera and making sure he looks good. These people obviously love the kid. It looks to me like they raised this kid and loved him very much.

I only see one racist in these photos, and it's the Senator himself.

He threw her under the bus while embracing a racist, ant-American demagogue. That’s an unforgivable sin.

Well what did we expect? He's a socialist. He doesn't have any real respect for family. They're a biological barbarity. A throwback.

When true social justice is established, you'll wonder too, why you ever bothered with such people. /sarcasm>

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I was a civil rights worker… South Carolina, 1966… 22 yrs old … helping old folks register to vote, teaching kids to read and write, directing Raisin in the Sun…

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I dream of my kindergarten best friend Andy from Walden School, Manhattan, born one day after me, shot dead in Mississippi 1964.

Barack, I idolized Stokley Carmichael and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

Barack, I lost the full use of my left hand for life in South Carolina.

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I gave hundreds to the Black Panthers for their children’s breakfast program when I was 25 and a young screenwriter in Echo Park, Los Angeles, even though I knew Huey was crazy and was worried my money might have been going for guns, even though I had my own children in the house when the Panthers came over, their jackets bulging.

Barack, I made excuses for the Black Power Movement even though I knew it was turning racist.

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, your speech was bullshit.

Barack, this isn’t about generations.

Barack, this isn’t about the black church.

Barack, this is about a pathological minister whose uncontrolled anger wounds his own people and keeps them down.

Barack, this is about a man who ignored that rage for his own political gain and even now won’t admit a huge mistake and looks for nuance and excuses.

Barack, this about a woman who went on scholarship to Princeton and Harvard and still hates America.

Barack, you say you want Black-Jewish reconciliation but you hung with an anti-Semite.

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

She had nicer things to say about him...........

Madelyn Dunham, Obama’s maternal grandmother, said yesterday she’s “a little overwhelmed” by the recent events and national attention surrounding her grandson.

“This has all come on the national level really fast,” she said from her Honolulu home. “And of course, I’m proud of him. He’s always been a very brilliant young man.”

Obama is exactly what we worried he might be. A liar, opportunist, and willing to use anyone anyway that gets him what he wants and takes the spotlight from his own guilt. Now it's his grandmother. The shame of that is disgusting.

But, another thing about his speech on rev. Wright that caught my attention and has not been mentioned: Obama said the rev. Wright was a good man who had helped many, many people and children. I would like to know how many of those people and children are white! That would be an interesting declaration of whether he is truly spiritual and sees no color in people, or truly a racist and only willing to help those of his own color. Other religions and pastors have programs to help the needy, no matter what their race, religion, or faith might be. Is that the case in rev. Wright's church?

Uh huh...and hillary is going to sail smoothly into the WH while Sean, Rush, Michele, Laura, etc., do HER dirty work for her, by tearing HER opponent to threads before the General.

All this should be brought out after he receives the nomination. IMO.
