TIFTON — A Tifton agricultural researcher says he has found the solution to the world’s energy crisis through genetic modification and cloning of bacterial organisms that can convert bio-mass into hydrocarbons on a grand scale. The local researcher believes his groundbreaking discovery could result in the production of 500 to 1,000 barrels of hydrocarbon fuel per day from the initial production facility. The hydrocarbon fuel — commonly known as oil or fossil fuel when drilled — will require no modification to automobiles, oil pipelines or refineries as they exist today and could forever end the United States’ dependence on foreign oil, he said.
J.C. Bell, who brought the world powdered peanut butter, has spent the last four years, identifying the bacteria that produces hydrocarbon and then finding a way to genetically alter it so that it could produce hydrocarbon in greater volume.

It has been a long time since I have posted on here. I originally sent this article to Matt Drudge. He seemed more interested in the local parapro who bit a young student (another local story) and he linked to that. Hopefully, this guy is not a crackpot. Personally, I believe he may be on to something. For all of us, I sure hope he is.

Yup. This article sounds like an idea for a research proposal instead of a finished product. I wouldn’t be capping any oil wells just yet.
Bell said the original idea came from observing cows expel gas. “That is natural gas,” Bell said. “Cows release methane gas.”
I wonder how long he watched the cows expel gas. I think we should send Al Gore to help him.
Wouldn’t the hydrocarbon yield depend on how many units of courics the process converted?

The continued reference to “hydrocarbon” could just be the cluelessness of the reporter showing through.
I've been working on dehydrated heat. Add your own boiling water and this stuff gets hot enough to burn your skin. You can even heat houses with it. Best thing is the low cost. I am now selling 1# concentrate bags for $100. If you add 10,000 gallons of your own boiling water to this, your cost for the dehydrated heat is only a penny a gallon. (The cost of the boiling water varies by region.)

Actually, the USDA-ARS developed the grasses, the University of Georgia got much of the credit for them, and ABAC (right across the street from the UGA Tifton campus) has a great turfgrass teaching program. Great teamwork all the way around.

The real tragedy is that while perhaps this technology is worthwhile, Dr. Robert Bussard, of “Bussard Ramjet” fame solved the Nuclear Fusion problem with his polywell. The Dept of Energy who earns money on the endless non functional tokamak won’t even look at the working polywell. We have Fusion available and because of politics we can’t have it. It’s a crime.
