Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.
In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.
In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

My guess if Obama saved himself today with those who would already be inclined to support him over Hillary. But Obama is forever stained now for the general election - the average white person rightfully will no longer be comfortable with this guy. Indie voters will flock to McCain enmasse.
I've listened/watched many of Obama's campaign speeches, which are "flowery", but lack any kind of substance whatsoever. What you heard today is (IMO) one of his better and more clever speeches. (Don't take my words the wrong way, I don't agree with him at all regarding the issues.)
This speech is flat out boring and does not in the least explain Obamas 20 year association with Reverend Wright.
Agreed. I came away from this speech thinking that he really didn't "disassociate himself" at all from the Rev. Wright. 20 years is a long time to be a member of this church with the same pastor (Wright). I can't believe Obama and/or his wife Michelle wasn't in the pews at least once during one of Rev. Wright's more offensives rants. And as Fox News has noted: Rev. Wright's "sermons" (rants) on DVD have been readily available for sale in the church gift shop for years.
Yes! Black.
He was parsing his words, giving a lawyerly evasion when he said what he didn’t hear while in the church pew. He never said he heard nothing wrong. What he said was, the passages of speech that were being played in the press were all or mostly all ones he had not been present to hear. That leaves open room for the possibility he WAS there when wrong things were said, but maybe not AS WRONG as what the public recently has seen, and maybe not those specific passages. A Clintonian trick...
That should get its own thread.
“I think Ashley was only 9 years old, and she wanted to help her mother by eating mustard and relish sandwiches for a year...because her mother was poor..
Which is profoundly stupid, because mustard and relish are more expensive and less nutritious than rice or pasta”
Now I’m craving peanut butter and dill pickle. :)
Exactly! LOL
I actually thought there were many good parts to this speech. Some of what he said is a far cry from anything we’d ever heard from Jackson and Sharpton.
He said Rezko only gave him a little cash. After 3 more times, its now up to $225,000.
How many times can you change a story and not be questioned?
How many times you can get away with it depends on what your party affiliation is.
Bill to himself “Damn he’s good!” and has informed Hillary that she hasn’t got a chance to beat Obama.
Whites, its your fault my pastor is an anti-American racist!
The AUDACITY OF WILLFUL IGNORANCE...
They transported as many to what is now Saudi Arabia. Saudi doesn't have a "race problem" like we do because the muslims preferred their slaves castrated.
Something to mention in passing to the Black Muslims here...
The Democrats are in a catch 22.
Interesting headlines- thanks for posting
You miss the point - we don’t elect politicians who consider virulent racists and America-haters their mentors and close spiritual advisors. Obama is free to love Jeremiah all he wants, but he is not free from it costing him the election. BTW, he loves Wright so much he was calling him a crazy uncle to save his own sorry political hide.
I had parents. Obama didsn’t. That is the difference. His mom was a flake, his dad was gone. He was looking for a dad and found one.
**Irish catholics against British Protestants....?**
And vice versa!
How about just a plain old bias against the Catholic Church?
He is also descended from the Luo tribe, which is currently involved in "ethnic cleansing" in Kenya. (Obama's father was a Luo.)
Have you heard him or Rev. Wright say a word about THAT genocide? I don't condone slavery, but this strikes me as a lot worse.
