Water is flooding into the stadium? Gads, this is rather nasty.

Inside the Georgia Dome, too? I know they were showing live video of the escalator in the World Congress Center looking like a waterfall. (I know they are all REALLY close together there, just wondering if they are technically the same building/plumbing system, or if they are separate).

Water is flooding the stadium from broken mains inside the place, caused by either structural damage...or as one newsie proposed, due to a massive pressure change in/around the dome associated with the tornado.

Trying to get some screen caps posted. There are some early images up here:

It’s south of Smyrna right now moving east southeast. May be weakening a little from how it looked on radar 20 minutes ago. I’ll wait it out though since it’s headed right toward me. Douglas County looks fine.

Humble" rather than "Hunble".

Actually, it was intended to be Humble back in the days when you had to be approved to join Free Republic. Like an idiot, I spelled it wrong.

This along with a hurricane hitting NO and a 9.0 earthquake hitting seattle or san fran have been the major doomsday scenarios that have concerned scientists for decades.

The scary thing is with a tornado you may have 5 minutes to take shelter and probably 95% of the time your area will be missed or only very minor damage will occur.

I saw your second post about the GA Dome. Witnesses inside there said the Scoreboard that was hung for the Tournament was swinging back and forth above their heads during the storm.

F4? type damage? That’s harsh. Prayers from us here who been here and done this a lot.

I see a lively tornado season here in TX, weird weather for the last 9 months.

Dang! Has the National Weather Service issued any kind of statement on the tornado? Do we have any idea as to the size of the funnel, wind speed, etc?

Kirkwood, Edgewood, Cabbagetown(?), mentioning the Old 4th Ward, and East Metro all heavy sustained damage.
Multiple viewers reporting seeing the funnel.
9 confirmed injuries, 1 critical - no fatalities reported at this time — these are JUST those transported to Grady Hospital...
Airport - no damage, and no disruption of flights.

You won't see anything of that nature till tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. Possibly later, as there is the possibility of tornadoes for the area forecast tomorrow and they won't be out doing damage surveys.

We're fine.

Here's the link to the local news:

Possible Tornado Rips Apart Downtown Atlanta

Sounds more like a downburst/microburst to me. Tornados generally go around downtown because of the heat bubble. The storm passed just south of us before it hit downtown, and it just didn't seem like a tornado storm. But what do I know?
