The Limbaugh Effect on Clinton’s Texas Win
WSJ ^ | March 6, 2008 | Susan Davis

Posted on 03/07/2008 6:08:22 AM PST by fightinJAG

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh led a campaign to have his Republican followers in Texas cross party lines and vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the state’s open primary last Tuesday. Why? Because Limbaugh thinks Republicans can defeat Clinton in a general election. Plus, watching Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama bloody each other in a nomination fight is pure sport for Limbaugh conservatives.

According to exit polls, Clinton won a notably higher number of Republican voters than she has in past open primary contests. Of the 9% of voters who identified themselves as Republicans in the Democratic Primary, Obama still edged Clinton 53%-46%. However, that margin is significantly slimmer than earlier contests. In Wisconsin’s open primary, for instance, Republicans broke 72%-28% for Obama. Similarly, in Virginia’s open primary, Obama was favored 72%-23%.

Clinton unquestionably secured a Texas victory, but some locals are convinced it was a false win bolstered by dirty politics. Laura Jean Kreissl, an accounting professor at West Texas A&M University, served as an election official in Canyon, Texas on Tuesday. She contacted the Wall Street Journal to report the hijinks she observed at the four precincts that voted at her polling location.

Of the 181 voters she personally dealt with, 70 offered that they were “Rush Limbaugh voters” who were there to cast ballots for Clinton. “I’m here to vote for Hillary Clinton, I want to see the Democratic Party implode,” one voter told Kreissl, she recounted in an interview. “I was just stunned,” she said. “As an election official we can’t say anything. We just jot them down and let them vote.”

You try thinking for a change and your nasty attitude is not impressing anyone. McCain is a guaranteed loser. He has too many scandals and appears to be in poor health, mentally and physically. Crazy McCain as president? HAHAHAHAHAHA.

I would prefer a proportional allocation of delegates so we don’t have a repeat of a McCain nomination where he became the presumptive nominee of the party with just 31% of the primary vote.

We should just ignore all fact in order to cling to this knee jerk hysteria about anyone named “Clinton”?

Thank you, but no.

Clinton is your boogie-man, not mine. As far as I'm concerned she's another hack Democratic politician and I don't see a whit of difference between her and Obama. But just because I don't think that the Democrats are stupid you automatically assume that means I support them. Like I said, when I consider the source I honestly couldn't care less what your opinions of me or my positions are.

—If the strategy works, we’ll have President McCain.—

And for crying out loud, what good is that?

maybe now there will be more incentive to get them.

Our party has shown great aptitude for being its own worst enemy.

The nice thing is now Hillary can throw dirt at Obama for months - Obama can throw dirt at Hillary for months.

That is less time the MSM has to brand McCain a sexist/bigot for doing the same.

“Unfortunately he gave us 8 years of Hillary, and I hate him for it. We almost had rid ourselves of the clintons, now, they will never be out of our lives. I don’t care how bad Obama is ...”

It has been reported from several sources that the majority of the crossover voters (republicans) voted for Obama over Hillary. That would mean that Rush, Mark, and Laura had nothing to do with influencing the cross overs to vote for Hillary. Rather, a majority voted for Obama instead.

I do not think Hillary or Obama would win in November if either one is the nominee. I now believe that McCain will win over either one unless Republicans refuse to vote for him or just don't vote at all to help Hillary or Obama win.

Ahem -- your conclusion doesn't follow from your premise. You can't conclude that Rush, Mark, and Laura had nothing to do with influencing the cross overs to vote for Hillary unless you knew how many WERE otherwise going to go over and vote for Obama - like I did.

The fact that 51%, say, voted for Obama still leaves open the possibility that, absent Rush's influence, that 90% might have voted for Obama. And that would be enough to change the final result to an Obama victory.

Have you ever said to yourself, looking at some other person's condition, "If I eve get to be like him, just shoot me'?

Well I think "him" in this case is someone who thinks "it won't be SO bad if Hillary becomes president".

I see, so it's going to be our fault, to hell with principle, two the line, be a good patriot, well, sometimes great pain is involved in rebirth. Don't blame me, McCain being the candidate is the problem, the cause has already happened man, and it wasn't me. But I'm not voting for McCain, no way, no how.

I can see why someone would dislike it that people normally registered as Republicans would vote for Hillary, but it doesn't appear to be illegal.

Besides, Dems do this kind of stuff all the time.

Primaries are State and National political party INTERNAL votes. They just happen to use State general election machinery and money. There is no ‘equal’ protection general election protection since these are PRIVATE associations selecting a nominee for a general election, just like the ELKSs or VFWs.
