Another question. When I clicked on the RSS thing I was able to change my sidebar to some gosh awful colors but now that I want to get rid of those colors when I click on the RSS again, I get all this HTML stuff. How do I change it back to the way it was before I tried out the colors?
Try this link to go to where you can change the colors back
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/my/subscriptions
I believe gray is the default color
My suggestion would be to bring back the ability to search by words in the title.
I suspect that there will be a spike in duplicate posts. Some posters are stingy with keywords or select obscure ones; other folks use keywords that have only limited ties to the article.
Or, perhaps a site specific link to Google would save a step when using outside search engines.
Ignore my last post. I was trying to search from the news page. I see now that if you open a random article, you can search titles. It seems like an extra step, but at least it can be done. It seems backwards to me, but perhaps most folks find the keyword search more useful than a title search. I’ll just remember to leave open the first story I view and use that to access the search page.
It is an improvement to be able to go ahead and hit ‘post’ after running a search result.
when you get there, do NOT click on a thread
above the threads, there will be choices
Articles Activity Comments Full
They are all clickable
Below is what I get when I do that.
Free Republic Home-Forum-Pings-Mail-More (Horn symbol) by;John Robinson (go)
Robinson Articles Posted by John - Put on sidebar.
Now if I were to click on one of his threads then I see what you say. Articles Activity Comments Full. And like I said if I click on Comments there I just get Lastest Article Postings.
Maybe since I didn't connect through the home page it is making a difference. I think I will log completely out and see if that helps.

I tried both the little boxes and neither works for me.

How do you search?
I see the search box, but how do you sort and search for user comments?
I logged out and came through the Home Page and logged back in. It made no difference. I still am not able to find Replies (Comments) from John.
You should get something like this, only with some of the top missing, but his latest posts should show up.
If it doesn't work, I don't know why.

Then just type their name in the field under view home page, enter name and click "view"
That has always worked that way.
if you don't have the spelling correct.....That problem has always been there....find a thread they posted on ......
Question: how does one access the [old] “search” function, to:
1. Search for threads by keyword or title, and...
2. Search for a member’s postings by screenname?
I must be blind. Where is it?
- John
The search function has been downgraded or even missing in the new format in my opinion
Previously it used to be quite easy to use and fairly comprehensive which allowed people to catch up on news and topics, this new search utility does not scale up.
later
Please bring back the old format. It was the best in my opinion.

It appears that my computer is working different than yours is. But I did discover that clicking on a Posters name and get their Profile Page, up at the top of that it has several things you can click on and one of them is "In Forum" when I click on that THEN I was able to view all that posters comments. But I should not have to go that route. When I log on I may want to see what Syncro has had to say today. If I always have to go that route it might take me forever to find a thread you have posted on in order to click on your name.
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/I enter the following in the "Go" box in the upper right corner:
posts-by:johnrobinsonI don't get the results I expect and here's what's in the "Go" box:
title:posts-by:johnrobinsonSo if I want to search for a poster I have to do one of the following:
-Enter the user you want to look up in the "view home page, enter name:" box in upper right corner
-Then click "In Forum"
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/posts-by:johnrobinson/in the browser's URL/address box
Seems if I want to do a keyword search I have to hand jam it into the browser's URL/address box:

No online Help.
Wonder what happens if I enter "walterreed;aar"?
Oops! "Nothing matched your criteria." and "title:walterreed;aar" in the "Go" box.
