The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.
The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.
The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.
Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.
"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
I meet all kinds of weird people on the internet.”
No, you DO find it funny. Lying isn’t becoming - even you you ... “dead”. What an odd moniker ... fitting for an odd person ... I know what you mean about meeting all kinds of “weird people on the Internet”.
Probably faked by supporters of the Obamunist.
Let’s not insult the puppy!
I’d bet that puppy is sweeter than Hitlery.
If the video is true, let’s give the little puppy some respect.
;)
I’m glad I’m late to this party.
We need more info, like who posted this. But I can tell you now that if it’s a a toy, I’ve seen the same done and Monty Python and laughed my butt off.
We are told these are actual marines and that it is a live puppy so we believe it. Sorry gang, I need more evidence before I believe either. I’ve seen better on Veoh or YouTube. And it wasn’t done specifically by military haters to discredit them.
As I said, you just make things up.
I never said it was funny. I never implied it was funny. In fact, I said it was dumb and inappropriate.
But you, through the magic of some sort of internet voodoo psychic friends juju, have somehow entered my brain and will correct my interpretation of my own reaction to the video.
As I said, weirdos abound on this internet of Al Gore's.
I'm skeptical. Like Southack, I think the fact there are two camera angles from the top and base of the cliff make this appear staged. The lifelessness of the puppy is odd, too. Nothing in the pictures can locate this in Iraq versus any other arid place, such as the American Southwest.
I'm ex-Army, but don't Marines today wear uniform patches with unit, name, rank, etc? I see nothing on these uniforms.
I'm skeptical until I get more info, as the Daily Mail should have been. Shame on them.
Me: No, you DO find it funny.

Me: If I were you, I’d stop now.
You’re making an utter fool of yourself.
I know it’s terribly important for YOU to have the last idiotic word so, go ahead!
I’ve got better things to do than argue with someone like yourself ... .
If this is true, I honestly hope all of these guys and their families contract cancer.
People that say things like this are typically miserable human beings, I've noticed.
OK, we get it.
“I think the fact there are two camera angles from the top and base of the cliff make this appear staged. “
There is no second camera angle, where did you get that from?
That’s a classic sign of a serial murderer. I can only think back to that video of Saddam’s henchman throwing those guys off the bridges, and here this animal is over there, the firing squad for him or else we get to deal with him murdering and raping when he gets back.
Picture number four.
I saw the video earlier then I went to watch it again and it got pulled. To me the film was continuously filmed. If these were Army guys, there would be an American flag on the shoulder. Marines and Sailors do not wear any patches that are on the sleeves of the blouse, they have rank devices on the collar. The flak vest does look authentic but it looks like there is no SAPI plate inserted in the chest. The poor quality of the film does make it hard to see if the uniform is the DUU’s or the Marine Desert ditigals. The first thing I thought of was what weapon the person might be holding, but I could not see it at all up until the last half of a second before the film ended, it appeared to be something that looked like a rifle butt under his arm.
” second, at the very least the military deserves to be treated innocent until proved guilty. The fact that there is some video on the Internet showing a bad act does not change my stance until something is proven in a courtroom.
If they did do it then, it was bad. However, it is not the end of the world. The mere fact that you are joining the MSM propaganda machine initially without waiting for a decision by the military is troubling to me.”
AMEN!
I'm a "mile walker"....
IF this is real, their senior NCO and a couple of junior NCO's should make these two turds eat dog sh#t, beat the cr@p out of them and then ask them if they'd like to go to the C.O. for office hours after they get out of the sick bay.
They hurt all Marines with bullsh#t like this. Immature and idiotic.
No, killing innocent stuff isn't a way to handle stress. Going out at night into the boonies and hunting for bad guys is how to handle stress. Killing bad people always makes it better.
I'm never going to trade a dog for a man, heck I wouldn't even trade a civilian in country for one of my men...... but if I ever caught one of them pulling a stunt like that, then FILMING IT!!!! and then posting it. I'd have my boot so far up their rear that they'd pray to go to a court-martial instead of office hours and possibly meeting me again.
IF and I mean "IF" these guys are Marines, they have dishonored themselves and, by wearing the uniform, every other Marine. They should call Murtha for a job and be done with it.
“Picture number four”
That still is from the video and the same camera and angle, it is not from the base.
That shot is the start of the dogs descent as the camera follows it down to the ground below the cliff.
Like I said, I would need to know who posted it. It seems just too contrived to me to have a couple of guys with a puppy being launched for all the world to see.
Come on, hurting puppies? It’s just so cliche.
(Well-said)
