The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.
The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.
The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.
Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.
"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
You: Hey, if you think my labeling twisted jokes using a toy “dumb and inappropriate” means I celebrate them and find them funny, I pity your reading comprehension ability.
You: It’s cruel when I laugh at your inability to grasp the basics of the English language, but I do it anyway.
Me: You have just demonstrated how sadism and laughing at cruelty is twisted. Then you sum it up with personally attacking me ... LOL! You are part of the problem - not understanding how animal cruelty TYPICALLY leads to HUMAN abuse and cruelty. Revel in your proud ignorance.
It has been confirmed that Motari is a Marine. Whether or not that is actually him in the film has yet TBD.
Yes, sick and frightening that anyone would wish death on a human being for this.
“Puppies look like that when you pick them up by the neck.”
I thought so too, they sorta go stiff, ‘probly so an adult dog’s teeth won’t dig in when the puppy is being carried. I hope we are embarrassingly wrong, and it is a fake or dead dog. Also, if it is a real dog, they could be fake Marines.
Freegards
There’s a definite lack of supervision going on here.
My children are carnivores. I buy and serve them meat. I'm certainly not on some crusade for vegetarianism and against eating meat. I just don't like eating meat myself; it's my own personal preference.
A dear friend invited me to dinner. She surprised me with venison and a splendid wine to go with it. She considered this a treat. Of course, I accepted her gift with gratitude and appreciation, and I ate the venison and thanked her for it.
I was raised by stern parents to be tough. I am definitely an alpha-male, and I have always been highly motivated and highly successful in every endeavor I've undertaken. (If you had had my parents, you would have managed to be tough, highly motivated, highly successful and an alpha too. Perhaps you were naturally.) My mother was every bit as tough-minded as my father. They were determined to "make a man out of me"--which in their warped thinking meant transforming a boy/man into a brute.
Fortunately, I was a helluva lot smarter than both of them, and I rejected most of their more stupid ideas.
My wife--fortunately--was also a lot smarter than my parents, and she has been a godsend.
It doesn't take great intelligence to know the difference between a man and a brute.
I'm not suggesting that people who eat meat are brutes. I'm saying that I don't like to eat meat--that's all--and that I am a man, not a brute.
There's a great book and movie--The Yearling--that deals with this subject.
In order to survive, we must all--men and women--steel ourselves to some of the harsh realities of life. We must be strong. We must be tough. We must prevail over adversity. But it is not necessary for us to become brutes. (I'm not calling you a brute, PL. What I'm saying is not directed at you or your post; please don't think that it is.)
Two camera angles, the sound of the puppy is wrong, the looks on the guys face...the things said.
Sorry, I will absolutely give our guys who volunteered to put their lives in harms way the benefit of the doubt before reacting badly towards them over something from YourTube that is so clearly a staged video.
If it is proven that two active duty Marines did this, they should be punished by the military according to the UCMJ...not by a bunch of people safe at home posting on a web forum whose sensibilites have been offended.
I look at it this way.
Dogs are the mirror image of God.
GOD
DOG
I doubt many marines would approve of this behavior as you seem to.
I think it worked, judging by a few of our liberal posters kneejerking on this from the start.
I hate to be this way, but I'm a doctor, and animal bone and muscle look like human bone and muscle to me--urp! But I'll take those potatoes. Man! They look good! Pass 'em over. And gimme a glass of Rosenbloom zinfandel reserve to wash 'em down with...! (It'll probably be good with that...is it steak? Pour yourself a glass too while you're at it, and let's dig in!)
It got airtime on the MSM. They report a wide variety of things and a lot from the Internet, which as we know is an excellent source for all kinds of make-believe.
Where did i approve of this? I mere said it was a dog.
Get over it. There are more important things going on in this world than a possible fake dog being thrown in the dirt.
Coalition Forces Treat 450 Afghans During Medical Outreach (Humans and Animals)
BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, Nov. 30, 2007 The towns of Eskandareh and Pacha Khak hide deep within the mountains of the Kohe Safid district in Afghanitans Parwan province.
Sgt. 1st Class Jason Sealey, Kohe Safi Police Mentor Team, holds a calf still while Lt. Col. Richard Probst, 413th Civil Affairs Battalion, gives it a shot during a medical outreach visit, Nov. 27, 2007, in Afghanistans Parwan province. Coalition doctors and veterinarians saw more than 450 people and 330 animals during the two-day visit.
Eskandareh is near the head of Tagab Valley, and Pacha Khak has been a stronghold for many armies throughout Afghanistans history. Members of 413th Civil Affairs Battalion, accompanied by Afghan National Police and the Kohe Safi Police Mentor Team, brought doctors and veterinarians to these two remote villages Nov. 27 for a village medical outreach.
Medical outreach missions are a way for the Afghan government and coalition forces to build a rapport with citizens on their own turf, said Army Col. Robert Nobak, of 413th Civil Affairs Battalion.
When possible, we like to work with Afghan providers and, when necessary, make referrals to Afghan medical facilities, he said. However, if there are cases where Afghan facilities are not readily available, we can make referrals to (Bagram Air Base).
This was the first time such a mission has been held at either of these villages, and more than 450 men, women and children were seen.
The age range was from 2 to 95, so the spectrum was fairly broad, Nobak said. The most common complaint was joint pain, for which we have a variety of anti-inflammatory medicines.
Maj. Jeremy McGuire, leader of the Kohe Safi Police Mentor Team, organized the mission. I proposed the idea for a medical outreach to Parwans subgovernor and the local (Afghan police) chief, he said. They picked the villages, which are a political hot bed.
Pacha Khak was a Mujahedeen stronghold during the communist regime and was sympathetic to the Taliban when coalition forces took control of Afghanistan. Eskanderah villagers fought against the Taliban; in fact, an Afghan National Army general hails from the area, McGuire said.
The mission met my expectations as far as the timeline, security and set-up, said Navy Lt. Tammy Felker, a physician assistant with 413th Civil Affairs Battalion who attended to women and girls in the village. It did not meet my expectations in that I would have liked to have seen more women of childbearing age. When we don’t see women of childbearing age in the clinic, then the village tends to be more traditional and suppress their women. The amount of women of childbearing age we see signifies the level of freedom the women have.
Still, Felker said, she felt the mission was still a success. This is the first time we visited these villages. It takes time to develop a rapport with people, she said. The first part is establishing trust. I feel we established trust with this visit, so, next time we will see more women and children.
Helping people with their ailments wasnt the only aspect of this mission. A veterinarian and an entomologist were also along for the ride. I provide public-health assistance and education to the villagers, hopefully to implement long-lasting fixes for problems like insect-borne and food- and water-borne diseases, improving the overall health and well-being of locals, though I tend to assist the other medical or vet assets to accomplish their missions, said Navy Lt. Jason Forster, a medical entomologist.
As the Humvees headed back to Bagram Air Base, chatter over the radios was all about the success of the mission. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would call this (mission) a 9, McGuire said. We would have liked to get more Afghan doctors, but the ANP did an outstanding job with security.
I meet all kinds of weird people on the internet.
I heard that Military dogs saved over 10,000 American lives in Vietnam. At the end of the War we abandoned them to South Vietnam. Many of them was ended up starved to death or eaten.
I don’t think God was pleased with our actions towards his canine heroes and that is one reason that the USA has had problems since Vietnam.
Some jerk like Bghater in the Defense Department thought they was just animals.
precisely.
Wasn’t there something in the Good Book about God telling us to be good stewards of his creatures?
Dog’s are the miror image of islamic women. look how they’re treated.
Another reason to make sure that the Satanic death-cult ends up on the ash heap of failed ideas.
Just to keep on subject, how long before people start photoshopping other faces on that soldier. I bet by the end of the day we will have hillary et all on that body. (of course it will be bill clinton’s head on the puppy body)
