Democratic Base Fissures

Although attention has been focused on McCain's problems with the GOP base, there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

Well of COURSE they will. Hillary was an IDIOT if she thought they would vote for her over another black. Of course, there will MANY whites who will vote against Obama simply because he’s black. White DEMOCRATS, it seems, if they are stupid enough to nominate him.

I doubt it; the Reagan Democrats were really Wallace Democrats whow switched in order to help Reagan first against Ford then four years later against Carter (and Baker, Bush, etc.) in the primary. I think a larger component may stay home though.

Of course it is - people lie to pollsters all the time - especially on racial issues. This is why I want Barry to be the nominee. If it’s hitlery she will get a ton of female votes and there are a lot more women than blacks.
