Democratic Base Fissures
Although attention has been focused on McCain's problems with the GOP base, there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

yes, think of how much more it will be when these white democrats actually know something about him. ;)

The older democrats are the ones who grew up with Democrat leaders against Blacks.

Knowing Mad John, he would tell that 20% not to vote for him if they were merely voting against Che’ Obama...
I’m only half joking.

The MSM will use this to try to shame people into voting Obama...you are “racist” if you don’t.

Yup, way more than 20%. Those were the ones that answered honestly to the poll. Another 10% or more know that once they close that curtain in the voting booth; there is nobody watching, listening, or telling them what to do but themselves.

Blacks probably make up nearly 50% of the Democratic vote.

My thought is there are a lot of middle class traditionalists that vote Democrat simply because they don’t realize the party left them years ago. We all know them. They are in total denial over the secular progressive agenda of the Democrat party. A lot of union midwesterners from places like Michigan, etc.
Obama is going to rub their faces in the fact the todays Democrats have more in common with Germany or Castro than the JFK they remember.

The number of "McCain Democrats" will make the Reagan democrats look puny.

yes. but that could backfire on them. My older relatives would think “so the liberal media thinks I am racist, eh? Well then I better prove them right and vote for Mccain”!

That's true. Large numbers of Republican and independent voters will likely swing to vote for Hillary, if Obama isn't nominated. Feminists, along with
religious (see '90s "swing vote") and import interests (China, for one) are hoping that Hillary will be nominated. Many are afraid that McCain will be too hawkish about defense (that he'll stop Iran from building nukes and the like).

It is the Wilder factor. Most poll respondents who are democrats when asked who they voted for said the black guy, however when in the voting booth, they actually pulled the lever for the other guy....
