Florida Power & Light is reporting massive power outages throughout South Florida, including Miami, Doral, Westchester, and Pembroke Pines. Reports of outages extended into Palm Beach, an FPL spokeswoman said.
The company said it was investigating the problem.
“Where abouts in Tampa Bay is power out?”
The University of South Florida area.
No- we no longer have one- his term ended and we’ve had an idiot in Tallahassee since then..
Jeb would already have made a statement on live TV.
It’s fairly unlikely that both nukes went down at the same time.
One going down could have triggered the fossil fuel plants nearby to be knocked offline, but that doesn’t even make sense if the reports are that the two nukes are back up.
You can’t recycle them to power up in this period of time if either of them went down.
I think there’s a lot of misinformation circulating.
If a republican said that it would be a racist statement and McCain would have to disavow it.
Yeah, but I’d expect the entire state to be down, not just the tip of the peninsula. I’m sure the lines run all the way to Maine too. I can’t see a storm in Georgia taking out Miami and not everyone in between. That would be some wacky grid if it could do that.
Spokesman Bob Coleman said the company shut down two nuclear generators at its Turkey Point plant south of Miami. When that happened, he said the entire state of Florida began to run low on electricity. When the supply gets low, then some circuits have to be disconnected.
cnn - nrc says disturbance on the grid caused Turkey Point to get shutdown and taken offline grid-wise,, unclear what caused disturbance or what actually got disturbed,, weird stuff can happen out there both physically and otherwise.. they are complex little critters of networks these days.
You pinged the right folks soldier. Cindy, has Laura heard anything?
Rush broadcast off air and on at least 3 times...off again at 2:59 and now station back at 3:10 with Sean.
A local newsman at a TV station mentioned that yesterday they saw black smoke coming from a building at Turkey Point, and called the facility. They were told everything was fine.
Now hearing they had a problem, and shut it down - well, guess everything wasn’t fine.
We began to run LOW on electricity? ROFL! Ok- MAYBE in July/August when we’re sweltering in the 90’s every day...
There could still be a logical explanation for this- but we’d need ole Bob to splain WHY we ran low...
ping
I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Many people don’t realize that it takes many operators working 24/7 to keep the grid up. It’s not a matter of just monitoring, it’s actively driving it.
Don’t know....just typing what I hear on the radio....
“HACKED BY CHINESE!!!”
That’s exactly what I was thinking, TampaDude!
Either that, or the UFOs that keep appearing over Stephenville, Texas are now hovering over Florida.....
You might just want to get a motel room for the night....
Neat..thanks!
So far so good in my area of Pasco.
Power spokesman on Fox just now said unsure if Turkey Point instigated the outage “or is a victim of the outage!” More here than meets the eye.
