Obviously this was a terrible unfortunate act. My prayers are with his family. One wishes, in retrospect, that someone could have helped him.

At the same time, obviously he wanted to tie his death to the statement above. He was sane enough to understand that we would view this as first and foremost mental illness, but he did not view it that way himself.

I'm not aware of another case exactly like this. Perhaps "blog suicide notes" are more common than I know. Certainly if one reads through the entire blog his situation is odd - assuming that the facts presented there are correct.

On the web it is always hard to know. I felt the only way to vet this was to put it here. Free Republic is one of the most powerful investigatory collectives in the world.

Some one wrote this in his comments in the proceeding article when he was quiting blogging. This person offered him help or at least to talk with him if he needed to do so. The commenter seemed to understand what he was going through well enough to see the possibility of where he was headed:

I do this in memory of the several hundred victims on 9/11 who jumped off the World Trade Center as a means of avoiding burning to death, and the over 3,000 American soldiers killed fighting Islamofascism in Iraq and Afghanistan. A parallel reason is a protest against the American Left and the Democrat Party who have stabbed the Armed Forces in the back in the early stages of what is shaping up to be The Third World War.

I can imagine the host of reasons, 'Media' will find here; not to cover this man's last wish. But in truth; it deserves to be covered; certainly for better reasons than we hear the sorriest of tales, every day from Greta VanSusteran; Fox News, et al. . .

There were monks who would set themselves on fire in protest of certain types of political regimes they felt were so bad that only that could get their point across.

This is tragic, but I don’t think this automatically gets classified under ‘he was mentally unstable’.

If this gentleman had asked to use the last two hundred-plus words of my essay at his site, I would have been pleased to grant him permission...though not pleased that that would become the conclusion of his suicide note. But I would have expected proper attribution.
