BELGRADE -- Zoran Vujović, 21, has been identified as the victim in Thursday's fire at the U.S. embassy in Belgrade.
Vujović, whose family now resides in Novi Sad, was a Kosovo Serb, forced out of the province when he was 12 years old. His identity was determined through DNA analysis, a spokesman for a district court in Belgrade said.
The exact cause and circumstances of his death were not given, according to agencies' reports. Vujović's charred body was recovered from the embassy, which was vandalized and set on fire Thursday, after several hundred rioters attacked the building, while a mass peaceful rally was ongoing in Belgrade.
The post mortem, conducted at the Belgrade military clinic, VMA, took 12 hours Friday. But the identity could not be confirmed, since even the bones of the victim's arms and legs were completely burned, reports say.
He was first identified by his father, Milan Vujović, who recognized some of the personal belongings that were recovered, including his son's gold chain. The DNA analysis later confirmed this.
His parents reported Vujović missing late Thursday. On Friday, the victim's father was looking for his son in MUP detention facilities, thinking that he may have been detained during the unrest.
The Vujović family were expelled from Čaglavica, near Pritina, in July 1999.
The Serbian people have slowly been losing their grip on Kosovo for over 150 years.
There is no time left for them to wait. They’ve been waiting for nearly 7 generations now.
Afghanistan? Iraq? That is what Code Pink claims.
Wow, you sound like an Anti-Iraq War Protester.
As for me, terrorism against the US is an act of War.
Who knew we had so many “Blame America Firsters” on FR...
Like the Jews in NAZI Germany?
It was a building. no Americans got hurt. How many more people do you think we should kill?
Sorry, I could burn an EU flag with out a wince, and I could do the same to virtually any country's flag, other MY OWN US flag. It's our own people that burn US flags who I have a problem with, andI am one of the few people I know who actually has a US flag on their house!
What you are selectively ignoring is that several hundred thousand peaceful Serbs protested and then went to church afterward to pray. About a hundred, in a separate group set fire to our flag and our embassy -- and yet they are the only ones anyone notices. One of them died to do it, how much blood to you want from them for protesting our insane Islamofascist-loving policies? And how much of our boys blood is it worth to defend the Crescent against the Cross in the Balkans?
We were attacked by the Islamic gang controling Afghanistan. The UN sanctioned our invasion of Iraq. Equating our operations there with those of the Clinton/Clark air terror assualt puts you in the same quality of critical thinking as Code Pink.
So, if terrorists burn the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan and no one is hurt, you will not have a problem?
You must have read a different post from this guy than I did.
If they were smart, they would have an aggressive U.S. lobby and an American PR offensive to link their struggle with America’s fight against Islamic terrorism and would move U.S. public opinion in their corner...forcing the administration to back off.
I never said anything of the sort. I pointed out to you that America did worse to the Serbs for no other reason than to keep your hero's sexual exploits off the front page.
“So, if terrorists burn the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan and no one is hurt, you will not have a problem?”
I wouldn’t consider it an act of war by the Pakistan government and retaliate. Speaking of pakistan. When Obama takes office and sends troops into Pakistan. Will you support him?
There is a vast difference between "Blame America First" and "the US can do whatever it wants, wherever it wants, to whoever it wants, and never have to deal with the consequences because we are the biggest bully on the block". Both of those ideas are irrational and immature. I elected Bush as US President, not as "God".
I am sorry I am so ignorant about this Bosnia/Serb/Kosovo stuff.. but I am.
Would someone please explain to me what was happening there? I don’t understand why Clinton had us on one side and I don’t understand what the fighting is about.
Did see some Dennis Quaid movie about it a while ago. He was in the French Foreign Legion and went into Kosovo I think. (depressing film). But I still have no idea what the political struggle is about.
I was opposed to Clinton’s actions in Serbia as well as the current president’s continuation of Clinton Policy in the region as well as Bush’s recognition of Kosovo.
However, I would never attempt to justify an attack against my own country.
All i said is that the people who burned our embassy are terrorists.
