WASHINGTON – California, which once lured Americans from near and far, is now driving out millions of the most productive residents – including high percentages of the most affluent.
"When California faced a Mount Everest-sized $14 billion deficit in 2003, one of the major causes for the red ink was the stampede of millionaire households from the state," says a report called "Rich States, Poor States" by economists Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore. "Out of the 25,000 or so seven-figure-income families, more than 5,000 left in the early 2000s, and the loss of their tax payments accounted for about half the budget hole."
And it's not just the rich leaving.
Based on data from moving companies, California had the second-highest domestic population out-flow of any state in 2005, according to the report, "despite the beautiful weather, beaches, and mountains."
The bad news for California is that it faces $14 billion deficit this year, despite boasting one of the highest tax burdens in the nation.
The report, published by the American Legislative Exchange Council shows jobs are not just leaving the country – they are moving from state to state, with the population following.
"States are in direct competition with each other for human capital and business investment. State governments that think they can attract jobs and people, and grow their economies, by taxing their citizens at a higher rate than their neighbors are sadly mistaken," said Democratic Arkansas state Sen. Steve Faris, ALEC's 2008 national chairman. "Legislators should take a close look at where their state ranks in this book and use it as a tool to help them improve."

Emmett Watson was a liberal old curmudgen, but he was spot on when he talked about how collectively we needed to buy the Berlin Wall (this was back when it was coming down) and putting it on the Columbia to keep the Californians out of Washington State. Emmett proclaimed himself the “mayor of lesser Seattle” and he was the best zenophobe in the region. Sadly, he passed on, and nobody heeded his advice.
Meaning they will accept more taxation and more regulation up to the point that drove them from California. So where do they once they have ruined Colorado?
OK, so crime is your big issue. It’s an issue with me, but not the biggest. I grew up in So Cal, and while I lived there I didn’t think that there was anything better. Sure I lived in the city of Orange, which was at that time small town America and was as nice a little town as you have ever seen, but I have had the opportunity (thanks to Uncle Sam) to live in several other areas across the country, some better, many worse, but looking at the big picture (crime included), I am freer and safer living in Virginia, than any other place that I have lived. Judging from what I have seen of the political and social climate in California, it is not the place to live if you consider yourself a free citizen.
Christians should start their own school systems. Problem solved!
The truth of the Laffer is as well established as what happens when we sit under an apple tree. So why do liberals keep getting hit by falling apples?
This also explains the pohenomenal increase in college and university spending since 1980 and the subsequent rise in tuitions.

here in northern florida there has been a few who have mentioned that florida should break into two states
here in the north it’s still more of the old south, in the south poart of the state where northeasterners have moved it’s like driving and being in the north except for the palm trees and weather, rarely do you even hear a southern accent down in southern florida
if they did succeeded then the dems would never get back power again , also the liberal laws and liberal attitude can stay there instead of infecting the rest of the country
Here in Atlanta (hip hop capitol of the nation and home of so so def records) we’re proud of our crime statistics. It is one of the greatest accomplishments of the black liberal democratic anti-gun administrations that we’ve had for the last couple of decades. We can proudly say the we have one ex mayor serving time in a federal pen for corruption and we’re proud that family members of the current mayor are “incarcerated.” This shows that the current administration truly represents its electorate.
I’ve been advocating for years that NY, NJ, MA, and CT be given to Quebec. It would be cruel to the Quebecois but what the heck.
Not as easy as it sounds. First of all, the right people must run them, choosing the right curriculum and teachers. Unfortunately,state regulations require them to hire people who are trained in teachers colleges where the inmates are indoctrined in the same line of thinking as public school teachers. The Educational Establishment is fiercely determined to maintain monopoly.

VT is a beautiful state but the amount of libs what have moved there has ruined the place,
now the first thing I would do is to get a triple war built around there., add mine fileds and of course put signs there saying this so it doesn’t open us up to law suits.

Yes, that is not only a big issue with me, but most everyone else. There are not too many things as bad as living in an area of high crime.
If you'd ever been a victim of crime, violent or property crime, you'd understand that.
I personally feel the reason for the lower crime rate in LA as compared with most other large cities in other states, it the professionalism of law enforcement here. Just my opinion...Not to mention laws like 3 strikes that actually caused many criminals to just leave the state, rather than risk a 3rd hit, and going to the joint for life.
