BOYCOTT BERKELEY (start of ping list;)
Drango | 2/16/08 | Drango

Posted on 02/16/2008 12:29:39 PM PST by Drango

I started to make a list of Berkeley firms to boycott. I don’t lightly believe that firms should pay the economic price for their city council views, but these firms are the enablers of one of the most repugnant regimes in our history and they unfortunately will be innocent casualties in the campaign. The city could not run without their tax dollars. Thus the boycott is on!

Obviously the German run Bayer, Berkeley’s largest corporate job source is a top choice. http://www.bayerus.com/communities/berkeley/index.html

http://www.sightspeed.com/company/our-team

OK how does a boycott work in practice? Let’s use sightspeed as an example. First we dig for information. Here is what 10 minuets of hunting got me. What can others dig up? http://www.sightspeed.com/business/customers

dig, dig, dig… http://digitalmediaupdate.blogspot.com/2007/10/sightspeed-open-for-business-sightspeed.html

Peter D. Csathy email: pcsathy@sightspeed.com; CEO of SightSpeed Inc. (www.sightspeed.com); …. live ….., in sunny San Diego, California; …)

Second we email all the principals. A polite letter. State our case. Ask them to leave Berkeley. Repeat. CC to the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce and the press. We FIRMLY ask them to leave Berkeley. If there is no response we escalate. Email their customers. Escalate. Perhaps we put boots on the ground and picket.

Polite, dignified and steady pressure. Times 10. Times 100. If you are interested please bump this thread or Freepmail me. Eagles up.

A side note: I don’t believe snark or extremely hot rhetoric will achieve what we want. It’s fun to blow off steam here, real fun, but the economic boycott should be above that to achieve success. There are perhaps 100 other Berkeley firms that we need to email or call. From emailing Hilton and asking them to sell the Doubletree at the Berkeley marina, to asking associations not to have a meeting at HS Lordships http://www.hslordships.com/

Let's partner with MoveAmericaForward, GOE, HotAir, LGF and others. Who’s in?

I have a T-shirt, bought from http://www.moveamericaforward.com that says, “Code Pink are the REAL traitors.” I wear it proudly!

The most important thing to remember is that the idiots on the Berkeley City Council, are whores for the city. They will vote for anything that will ensure their continued income.

As for us and FR, we need to get involved!

If I still lived in CA, I’d be in Berkeley, showing my face, painting signs and writing letters to the Editor of the local paper, as well as the campus papers.

They would wish they had never started the fight!

LOL!

I buy all the shirts/sweatshirts that MAF have for sale!

It’s the only way I can give them financial support and let the world know how proud I am to have such a wonderful military life!

Melanie Morgan has my undying loyalty!

I have two grandsons who are more than willing to die for Code Pink and all the commies/Marxists who support the Left!

What I cannot understand is why Gov. Schwarzenegger hasn’t denounced the Berkeley City Council.

Unfortunately, Gov Schwarzenegger-Kennedy is a RINO and probably doesn't want to bother with something that he cannot make money off of.

In fact, he would probably support the city council because if he was a Patriot, he would want them to lose their fed money.

If that happened , they would probably ask him for money.

Follow the money, right?

You know I will email Harry Reid...he is SOOO sick of my conservative emails!

But I'll remind him of his duty every chance I get, and I will continue to be a thorn in his side for as long as it takes!

Berkeley be danged! Maybe they need to roast in the dark with their tofu and carrot juice...

Shall we email Gubbnah AHnold and tell him he needs to be AMERICAN????

If he has the name, he needs to play the game. Otherwise, I’ll boycott all his movies, give away the ones I have (or trash them) and boycott his real holdings.

His wife has never known a lean day in her life, so appealing to her is a waste of time. (My family owns more of Martha’s Vineyard than HERS does!) LOL!

The business owners who are allies in this fight, could post signs to that effect in their business windows. Or on their websites. Although, the business owners that have been quoted in the news haven’t said they are opposed to the city council’s silly statements; all they’ve said is don’t blame us....if they don’t vote them out/recall them, then they appear to tacitily approve if not totally agree.

The petition

We, the undersigned condemn the Berkeley City Council’s treasonous attack on US Marine Recruiters stationed in their city. We ask that Congress cut off funds from any and all municipal entity within the confines of the city of Berkeley, California, until such time as the city council withdraws it’s action.

The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and “if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests.”

The measure passed last week by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law, focusing on the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

In a separate item, the council voted, also 8-1, to give the Marxist protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

Yes, but while he was busy making it all about him, he’d be giving the cause exposure that would be orders of magnitude greater than FR. Oh well. Carry on.

“not harm the good, hard-working small business owners - most of whom do not live in Berkeley and therefore cannot vote in Berkeley.”

Perhaps those business owners should shorten their commutes by re-locating the business where they live?
I live in a similar situation. Live just outside a city limits. Nearly Every council action does affect me or my property in some way, yet I cannot vote for city government. But that don’t stop me from atending meetings and voicing concerns, or being a member of a community organization that has representitive members who do reside within the city limits, and attend city council meetings.

Of course every business within the city limits has concern the council will not renew their business license. For some who have moved on, it was the best thing they could have done business wise. Freedom of choice is not as easy as demoRats and liberals try to make it sound.

“Legislation has been started”

Correction!!! Legislation has been SUGGESTED.

Be sure to follow it through the process and see if it actually makes it anywhere.
In government, the power of suggestion lulls people into complacency. We tend to go on with our lives, thinking something is getting done, when in reality it don’t.

Business owners could place “MARINES WELCOME” signs in their windows and see exactly how that improves their sales. The almighty dollar has more influence in the vote than the actual vote itsself.
