Other than the socialist Mike Huckabee and isolationist Ron Paul, John McCain was at the bottom of my list for a preferred candidate. On the other side of the equation, it is looking like Barack Hussein Obama may overrun the ice queen Hitlery Clinton. What makes that scary is Obama is to the left of the ice queen.
I have read posts from both sides of the McCain debate, the 'if you don't vote for McCain it is a vote for the democrat' gang and the 'I will not subjugate my conservative principles and vote for McCain' crowd. Personally, I support the rights (read freedom) of everyone to make such choices.
For me, my vote will be guided by my own priorities. What do I value most ? What is most important ? The scale weighed on one side love of country and on the other love of ideology. My country always comes first. So as distasteful as it will be to vote for McCain, to allow either Marxist, Hitlery or Obama, to win is to sell out my country.
Is your ideology more important then your country ? Do you only love your country if the elected leaders are those who mirror your ideological beliefs ? If one is willing to hand your country over to leaders who are clearly worse than the alternative, then one clearly loves their country, but they love their ideology more. But that is the unique trait of a free people, they have the freedom to place that order on their priorities.
FReepers who have been around since before 2000 are either incredibly thoughtful and insightful or kinda nuts. JR falls into the former category. Others the latter. . .
Have a nice day.
Thanks for the compliment, unity-man.
That is a first. Slamming Freepers for having been long time Freepers.
What, you haven’t noticed that some long-time Freepers are sometimes a bit curious in their thought processes? Like I wrote, only some.
Please vote for your country, not your pride! Have a little glimpse of the Obama campaign.

Good post. I personally cannot recall a politician who held all of my beliefs. I want a leader.
I believe many of the people bashing McCain are not true conservatives anyway. Anybody who think there is an equivalence between McCain and Obama is not a conservative, and that includes all of those so-called conservatives from the media. Those media conservatives have no expertise in any field, other than whining when everything does not go exactly their way. Those people did not endorse anybody, then when McCain moved to the front they have attempted to undermine him in the general election.
Just keep telling yourself that compromise of your core principles is the right thing to do—and stay on your meds, of course.
"Let me clear this up for you, I would vote for you if you had an R behind your name."
Is that a "yes"? Would you vote for Charles Manson if he had an R by his name? How about Kim Jong-il? Fidel Castro? Osama Bin-Laden with an R by his name?
Seriously, I'm curious about where your line is drawn, if ever. (please answer the question, no dodging.)
Actually I voted for McCain in 2000 and wish he won. I guess you think Bush is a true conservative and McCain is a liberal, despite the fact that their positions are virtually identical on the issues that supposedly make McCain liberal, such as campaign finance reform and the border.
Frankly I don't see any difference between McCain and Bush. If Bush was running against Hillary or Obama, would you sit it out or crawl on your knees over a mile of broken glass to keep those commies out of the white house? You are absolutely right. McCain is an extension of the Bush presidency, with all its flaws and strengths.
There is one other point worth mentioning: John McCain is a soldier, a real soldier, not a phony soldier like JFnK, but a man who has truly served his country in time of war.
It's about gdmn time the War Party had a Soldier as its leader. Not that I think there's been anything wrong with Bush's leadership as CiC. But I'm sick of the "chickenhawk" criticism from the Treason Party and the one thing about McCain is he puts that criticism to rest.
If your house was going to be invaded by thugs, and there is absolutely no choice about it, which type of thugs would you rather be facing? A group of highschool bully types with metal pipes are option A.
A group of Serbian (work with me) military deserters with Kalashnikovs and a penchant for murdering people after gruesome torture is option B?
And option C is a group of Hutu savages thinking it is a redux of the Rwandan massacres of the early 90s and that you are a Tutsi, and with the simple thought of simply dismembering you and your family with machetes?
3 Groups ....and one of them has to come over.
And the key thing is ....ONE of those groups is coming to your house, no matter what (in much the same way that the next president, barring an act of God, will either be McCain, Clinton or Obama). In my opinion, McCain would be the highschool thugs, Clinton the Serbian mercs, and Obama the Hutu crowd. One of them will be president ....virtually guaranteed.
Thus the (very crude, I must admit) question. Of the three thug groups, if one of them was SURE to come to your house, and you could chose which one was a-knocking, which group would it be? Personally I'd take the highschool thugs, but it seems like some are willing to select the Serbian mercs or the Hutu crazies.
NOTE: McCain has MAJOR flaws, and at best he is a Rino. I just wonder whether or not a Rino is not at least better than a choice of two Commies, with the difference being that one of them comes with Bill Clinton, and the other comes with an ideological mindset that would even make pre Soviet collapse commies grimace. In my book the Rino is better, but if people would rather have Billary, or Hussein, then by all means have at it.
Personally I'd rather drink flat soda than choose between hemlock and cynanide, and with such a choice the flat soda would seem like heavenly mead.
well said
LOL!
And I’m using the word “soldier” in its general sense. I know what branch of the service he was in. Here in FR, you generally can’t use the general term “soldier” without getting jumped on. But it’s the general term I want to use to make my point. So I don’t care what the pedants say.
I've made a V.2 that fixes that. No democrat deserves to be in the same frame with John McCain, even if I'm ribbing the hell out of him for being a RINO...
Gee, I thought it was Obama using his Invisibility Cloak as he tailed McCain through the halls of Congress.
I don’t vote for liberals.
I’ll wait for a decent third choice. If none emerges, I’ll not vote for President.
They're all globalists. That's more than just a RINO, it's someone who will betray our country's sovereignty and constitution. Why vote for any of the "top 3" pushed on us by the powers-that-be, and be a willing participant in taking our country towards socialism/globalism? They're counting on you to cave in to pressure and do that. Don't get suckered.
Who they calling Tootsie? Bring it on, punks!!
