Yep ugly and one of those continuing situations even after Mugniyah is out of the picture.

“Hezbollah: Revenge for Mugniyah killing to be ‘extremely costly’ for Israel”
By Yoav Stern and Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondents

Tags: Lebanon, Israel, Hezbollah

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”It won’t be long before the conceited Zionists realize that Imad Mughniyah’s blood is extremely costly, and it makes history and brings about a new victory,” Hezbollah’s head of the southern Lebanon region, Sheikh Nabil Kauk, said Sunday at a memorial service for the arch-terrorist who was killed in a car explosion in Damascus last week.

Kauk, who spoke in Mughniyah’s home village, Tayr Debba, in south Lebanon, added that Israel was “standing on one leg of fear and trepidation, having become the hostage of its own act of stupidity.”

Kauk spoke at a ceremony attended by the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Hezbollah senior officials and representatives from the Amal terrorist group, Fatah and representatives from the Lebanese army.”

“’Arrests’ in Moghaniyah murder case”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Syrian officials are reported to have detained suspects said to be connected or involved in the killing of Imad Moghaniyah, a senior commander of Hezbollah, in Damascus on Tuesday.

According to the state-run Al Watan newspaper, “suspects of various Arab nationalities have been arrested”.

The paper claimed on Sunday to have obtained information from a “well-informed source”.

“Syria will announce the results of the investigations when the probe is over,” it said.

Moghaniyah, one of Washington’s most wanted men, was killed in a car bomb blast in the Kfrar Souseh district of the Syrian capital.”

Kuwaiti Paper: Mughniya Had Response Plan In Place For Hizbullah Leader Assassination

The Kuwaiti daily Al-Rai reports that according to sources close to Hizbullah, assassinated Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyah had prepared a Hizbullah “target bank” for responses to a possible assassination of Hizbullah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah by Israel. The sources added that now, these targets would be attacked in retaliation for Mughniya’s assassination.

The sources noted that Hizbullah was not rushing into a response to the assassination, and was waiting for a moment when Israel would be less alert.

The sources also said that Hizbullah would strike at a target that it considered equal to the painful blow that it had taken, and that it might do so in any arena, since Mughniya’s assassination had taken place outside the natural arena of the conflict.

Imad Mugniyah is dead, killed by a bomb in Damascus. He was considered by many one of the top three terrorists of all time. Tom Joscelyn, who has written this week’s cover story for The Weekly Standard on the matter, discusses who Imad Mugniyah was and his Iranian-led history of collaborating with al-Qaeda. Mugniyah taught bin Laden’s al-Qaeda the art of simultaneous massive truck bombings, a trademark operational practice that Joscelyn tells Fire Watch “al-Qaeda really inherited from Hizballah and Mugniyah.” In the second segment, terrorism and Middle East expert Nir Boms joins us from Israel to discuss the potential Iranian-Hizballah response going forward. Boms details why the Iranian-Hizballah retaliation “will most probably be geared toward an Israeli target overseas.” As he notes, Mugniyah’s are big shoes to fill for his two successors – but Hizballah is certainly not going to stop orchestrating terrorist attacks.

Former Iranian President On Mughniya: His Faith In God And Love For Human Freedom And Glory Made Him Famous

Former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami wrote in the memorial book for assassinated senior Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniya: “The fire of malicious rage, which sees its existence in the demise of others, this time entangled a dear person whose faith in God and whose love for human freedom and glory had made him famous in the history of mankind and Islam.”

Khatami added that Mughniya “was martyred to flow blood in the veins of the ‘storm-struck Middle East,’ especially Lebanon and Palestine, through a death deserved only by a great man like him.”

Threat of Terrorist Attacks In Gulf States In Protest Against Mughniya Assassination

Bahrain sources reported that three Gulf state embassies in Bahrain, including the Kuwaiti Embassy, had received anonymous phone threats of attacks in these countries in the next few days.

The attacks are supposed to be in protest against the assassination of senior Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniya and the Gulf states’ refusal to recognize him as a martyr.

The caller, who was a woman, also warned that the Gulf state leaders’ participation in the Arab summit in Damascus would lead to terror attacks.

“Mugniyeh’s true legacy”
CSP Security Forum | Feb 20, 2008
by Caroline Glick

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Mugniyeh, a central figure in global terror, leaves a complicated legacy.

It is quite possible that terror master Imad Mughniyeh was not killed Tuesday night in Damascus for his past crimes, but to prevent him from carrying out additional attacks in the future.

On January 30, French security services raided a Paris apartment and arrested six Arab men. Three of the men - two Lebanese and one Syrian - were travelling on diplomatic passports. According to the Italian Libero newspaper, the six were members of a Hizbullah cell. Documents seized included tourist maps of Paris, London, Madrid, Berlin and Rome marked up with red highlighter to indicate routes, addresses, parking lots and “truck stopping points.” The maps pointed to several routes to Vatican back entrances.

Libero’s report explained that the “truck stopping points” aligned with information the French had received the week before from Beirut. There, Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah had convened a conference of his senior terror leaders where he ordered them to activate Hizbullah cells throughout Europe to kidnap senior European leaders.

The day of the arrests, French Defense Minister Herve Morin was meeting with his American counterpart, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington on a previously unannounced visit. During his public appearances, Morin criticized the US National Intelligence Estimate on Iran’s nuclear program from November. Morin said, “Coordinated information from a number of intelligence services leads us to believe that Iran has not given up its wish to pursue its [nuclear] program,” and is “continuing to develop” it.

Other recent reports relayed French concern that their embassy in Beirut is being targeted for attack by Hizbullah. On January 15 terrorists attacked a US Embassy car in Beirut, killing four and wounding 16. This week, French President Nicholas Sarkozy’s chief of staff told L’Express newsweekly that the threat of terror against France “remains quite high.”

All of the feared terror attacks against French and European targets have the classic earmarkings of Hizbullah operations chief and Iranian Revolutionary Guards officer Imad Mughniyeh. Mughniyeh was the pioneer of embassy bombings and high-profile kidnappings.”
