I’m watching the results in Virginaia right now.
It seems most of us are focusing solely at who is winning the Republican primary.
With 75% of the precincts reporting on both sides...
Democrats cast 651,496 votes
Republicans cast 315,867 votes
Obama received 414,472 votes
McCain received 167,958 votes
Anyone else see a problem for the Republican candidate McCain this fall?
A large number of republicans voted for Obama. I read somewhere that 30% of the democratic primary voters were independents and republicans.
At my precinct, we had about 500 republican voters, and over 700 democrats. The democrat number is about normal, while our republcian number is up to 1/3 what it usually is.
Republican voting is supressed because McCain is going to win the nomination no matter how the voting goes in the rest of the states.
Yes, that the Democrat turn out is incredible. And I think we are doomed.
However there is another school of thought.
Does this turnout simply reflect the fact that the Democrats have a close race where every vote counts and McCain is the all but anointed Candidate for the GOP? Also, there are some 9 months to campaign, lots can change in that time.
The Dems are energized. Look at the turnout numbers across the country.
The only way McCain has a chance to win is if Hillary pulls a backroom deal at the convention and gets the nomination. Blacks will be enraged, they’ll either stay home or vote Repub just to spite her.
