Regurgitating the Apple: How Modern Liberals "Think"
The Heritage Foundation ^ | May 10 2007 | Evan Sayet

EVAN SAYET

I call myself a 9/13 Republican. I grew up a liberal New York Jew; you don't get much more liberal than that--although it was lower-case "l," not what's considered Liberal today. I graduated from high school knowing only one thing about politics: that Democrats are good and Republicans are evil.

I tell a story. It's not a true story, but it helps crystallize my thinking that brought me to become a conservative. I say: Imagine being in a restaurant with an old friend, and you're catching up, and suddenly he blurts out, "I hate my wife." You chuckle to yourself because he says it every time you're together, and you know he doesn't hate his wife; they've been together for 35 years. He loves his daughters, and they're just like her. No, he doesn't hate his wife.

So you're having dinner, and you look out the window and spot his wife, and she's being beaten up right outside the restaurant. You grab your friend and say, "Come on, let's help her. Let's help your wife," and he says, "Nah, I'm sure she deserves it." At that moment, it dawns on you: He really does hate his wife.

That's what 9/11 was to me. For years and years I'd hear my friends from the Left say how evil and horrible and racist and imperialistic and oppressive America is, and I'd chuckle to myself and think, "Oh, they always say that; they love America." Then on 9/11, we were beaten up, and when I grabbed them by the collar, and I said, "Come on, let's help her. Let's help America," and they said, "Nah, she deserves it."

At that moment, I realized: They really do hate America.

Though there was a previous thread posted in apparent anticipation of this speech, a quick search inspired by another forumite has led to the posting of this thread.

Thanks, skiddle_deboppop!

I think this speaks for itself.

At that moment, I realized: They really do hate America.

that really is a tragically great way of illustrating the point.

the very people who are invested with the responsibility of serving america, many of them, have served her enemies.

No question 9/11 was the fault of the previous, Democrat, administration. The question is was it only due to their incompentence or were they part of the plan to allow the terrorists to successfully attack our Nation?

notice that the attacks did not occur until after Mr. & Mrs. Bill Clinton left office. I've always thought that a fascinating coincidence.

I believe the roots go back much, much further, however. Decades, at least.

In all fairness, the whining of various Clintonistas about how the timing of the attack prevented THEIR guy from having a chance to prove his greatness seems to make it unlikely they knowingly helped it to happen.

One thing though, considering what we now know about the think-tank that President Nixon started after Munich and how they addressed the very scenario that happened on 9/11, I’ve always been curious if Senator Frank Church (D) wasn’t part of that effort?

Just some additional info: the think tank stopped meeting after President Carter took office and instead of us implementing the anti-terror suggestions that put forward back in the ‘70s (which would have prevented 9/11, BTW) some years later we saw Senator Church leading his infamous Church Commission that eviscerated our Intelligence capabilities to pretty much the present day.

Adding to the suspicion is that the UNSUCCESSFUL 1993 attack, which was also due to Democrat incompetence or treason, happened While the Clintons Were In Office. Could this have been a set-up for the 2001 attack, to throw suspicion off them?

sort of seems like a stretch; remember, we're dealing with pre-renaissence mentality. if they could have brought in enough firecrackers, they would have probably tried that.

However, the lull of domestic activity between then and 2001 was of note.

Freeper the invisible hand sent me the following...

Mac ping! oops, sorry.

... and I thank him for the heads up because without it, I might not have read this article. However, the only thing about this article relating to Apple is in the title.

It is much more a FreeRepublic issue that all Freepers should read and understand, so I am going to Ping the Apple Mac list, and several others I maintain. Why? Because it cuts to the very core of the battle we conservatives are waging against the Liberal left of our country.

I have just finished reading this article which I consider one of the most important essays/speeches I have read on the danger that the liberal mindset has put before us... and why all our well researched, well reasoned arguments and attempts at rational discourse are ignored by our opponents.

This is an important speech because it outlines clearly exactly what we conservatives are facing in our opponents. It tells us why FACTS don't matter to them, why REASON doesn't sway them, and it tells us exactly why we are considered EVIL by people who ignorantly promote evil themselves and why they do not know the difference...

In all honesty, I found it a very frightening read... and it left me wondering what we can do to reverse what has already happened.

The lists I am Pinging:

My apologies for using these lists for such a non-list subject related article but the primary characteristic we all have in common on FreeRepublic is that we are Conservatives and need to understand what that means. I believe this article will help.

And it takes a lot of trauma to dislodge those beliefs — a Moment of Clarity, if you will.

I think the word that works best is "epiphany," a moment of sudden revelation or insight.

Thank you, Swordmaker. It worked. I read the article. It echoes what I have been saying for a long time. The liberals believe that this country is wrong in its very existence and needs to be brought down. This is what’s ahead if Hillary or Obama is elected.

[Even tho] the only thing about this article relating to Apple is in the title . . . I am going to Ping the Apple Mac list, and several others I maintain. Why? Because it cuts to the very core of the battle we conservatives are waging against the Liberal left of our country.
Swordmaker, I find your posts about Macs to be sensible and informative, and I find this article to easily qualify for "Bookmark" significance - and therefore I add my ping to yours. In fact, I went for the full instead of the usual, less-intrusive list - a "maximum effort" ping.

I agree that this is challenging stuff. Here, I'm going to limit my commentary to discussing the ending of the piece:

Liberals very much recognize themselves. I remember watching "Hannity & Colmes," and Sean Hannity said of Nancy Pelosi that she's a San Francisco liberal, and immediately Alan Colmes yelled at him that he was trying to demonize her. How do you demonize someone by stating the facts?

So suddenly they decide, "Okay, people have caught onto us about Liberalism; now let's call ourselves progressive. We won't be progressive in the slightest. It's just a name. It's just an advertising slogan."

. . . because it is up my alley. I have often made the point that journalists call themselves "objective" even tho taking your own objectivity for granted is the very definition of subjectivity. And that journalists call nonjournalists who agree with journalists' own opinion of themselves and the overriding significance of their negative, superficial drivel by positive labels such as "liberal" (which they have pretty much run into the ground) and "progressive" (even though as the author of the piece points out, they actually have nothing to "progress" to). And that when journalists call us - who believe in liberty and therefore in the ability of individuals to make changes in the hope of progress - "conservative," they mean it as a pejorative.

And I have called those usages of words "Newspeak" inversions of meaning. But Sayet's

"It's just an advertising slogan"
is an excellent way of putting it. I expect to be using it. Like all good ideas, it seems obvious in retrospect.

Excellent article - long, but very much worth reading.

It does explain how people with good intentions CAN be wrong, ALL the time.

I do wonder how 30 years of indoctrination can be undone. As for moments of epiphany . . . if 9/11 wasn't an epiphany, what the heck is it going to take? The Modern Liberals' epiphany lasted just about long enough for them to sing "God Bless America" on the Capitol steps. As soon as they went back inside, their old bad habits took over.

It's really sort of sad we've come to needing clever explanations that evil really is what it appears to be.

Sigh.

Mr. Sayed just graduated from kindergarten, and has his parents to thank for teaching him the moral metrics of Judaism by which to even recognize evil. The kids in the schools he wants to save are bereft of such standards, and do not possess the means to recognize, much less understand how destructive are their unconscious beliefs.

However, it's one thing to wake up to the recognition that what liberals believe is evil. It is quite another to learn that the elites KNOW their policies are evil and and have selected them BECAUSE they are evil. They know that they are destroying Western Civilization, fomenting anarchy, violence, disease, and poverty. That is what they want.

It's a bitch to accept it, much less to incorporate those lessons into a positive antithesis. Mr. Sayed's next step is to learn why these thugs so desire to do evil, who they are, and what they plan. My hope is that in learning this desire is born in the hope for a Messiah, he will come to realize He's already been here.

When He does come back, He'll be pissed.
