Thanks for your response. You touched on something that was bugging me and so I used your post to ask more questions and to make my points.

... But since politics is the art of the possible, some compromise is necessary—hopefully on the less vital issues....

I heard this argument many times here in FR and you are probably right, although I don't understand it :).. but then again there many things I don't understand :)

I guess it's in one's DNA. I detest McCain so much nothing in the world could make him more appealing to me, nothing!... And to have one of my own, Duncan in my case and perhaps Huck... although I have my doubts about him, actually accept the VP from this weasel... It would just make vomit for a full day at least :)... But again I understand not everyone is like me.

Also I don't think the world will end if the Rats win. We could still do a lot electing good solid senators and congressmen who will keep them in check. Besides, wonderful things can happen when you lose power. It can very motivating and make you really HUNGRY to win again, but hopefully by this time having dealt with many issues that seem to separate us, because I really believe there is deep division between social conservatives and the others and perhaps... We should not be together but the future will tell.

I also believe in the 'Law of Pendulums,' as applied to politics... it's inevitable that the party in power will make mistakes and eventually accumulate enough of them to tip the balance the other way. I frankly don't see how the Rats can lose this election unless they want to... And I don't think they are that dumb :). Thanks

Well they may want to. If it looks like Barack is winning, does Clinton Inc go to court to demand the Michigan and Florida delegates get seated or do they just quitely fade into the night? We got problems here so we tend to overlook the problems the Dems have brewing.

I would rather see hillary in the White House than McCain, for the reasons you give. But I’d consider changing my mind if Fred was McC’s VP candidate. It would be a gamble, certainly, but it could open up the possibility of renewing the conservative coalition down the line.

When I say that politics is the art of the possible, I think it’s important that a politician should know WHEN to compromise. For instance, Bush did the right thing not compromising on his SCOTUS appointments (except for the Miers fiasco) because that was absolutely vital.

On the other hand, although I think “No Child Left Behind” was a mistake, if he needed to do it to get re-elected, maybe it was a reasonable sacrifice. But medicare prescription was stupid.

To take another instance, Bush’s support for illegal amnesty was stupid, counterproductive, and abominable. It didn’t gain him any political points, yet it betrayed our country and undermined the conservative movement. And it probably lost a lot of hispanic votes for the future, pointlessly.

So, I’m willing to put up with a few things I don’t like if it gets the important things through, but I’m not willing to put up with stupid mistakes like that on major, major issues. McCain has that kind of stupidity. He loves to do the wrong thing on really major issues.

Wow, for someone who “doesnt understand”, you sure hit the nail on the head!

“Also I don’t think the world will end if the Rats win”

Neither do I, but I think that’s the only thing mclame has....fear of the “other”. Otherwise, his well is dry.
